Activities at Sutton Grange Care Home

Here at Sutton Grange we work really hard at providing a range of activities to suit our residents needs. We understand that everyone is different and we enjoy supporting our residents in whatever activities they would like to take part in. With a dedicated Activities co-ordinator and a friendly team of volunteers we are always busy with activities. We have several clubs including; gardening, film, craft, music, puzzles, and singing. We enjoy live music and entertainment, both in and outside of the home, and have regular outings on the minibus to local places of interest. Residents take part in animal assisted therapy, afternoon tea, arts and crafts classes, and visits from local community groups and school children. We believe it is important to provide stimulating, meaningful and relevant activities for our residents in order to make friends, and build a warm community to live.

Alison Wareing

Activities Assistant

Hi, I'm Alison. I am the Activities Assistant here at Sutton Grange, I joined the team in 2016.

I grew up in the local area and started my career working with animals.  After I had my daughter, and before I joined Barchester, I trained as a teacher and taught lipreading and communication.  The skills I learnt have been invaluable in my role today.

Now, I fill my days spending time with our wonderful Residents, helping them to live their lives to the fullest. I try to make a difference in someone’s life each day.

Postal Talk

Our residents really enjoyed a virtual history tour of the postal service and how it was transformed from a local service to a global delivery service.

Book corner with Henry Slator

We had a lovely time joining Henry Slator for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘Conversations at the Pond’.

Henry had an unusual writing journey, which many of our residents found inspiring, he underwent chemotherapy in early 2020, which allowed him to rediscover his light-hearted outlook on life by imagining conversations with creatures in and around his large garden pond and adding buckets of fun.

The entertaining Conversations at the Pond, with its mass of colourful illustrations, took our residents along his journey, they felt inspired, cheered and loved hearing all about Henry’s experiences.

Queens birthday celebrations

We celebrated our Queens birthday in style.  Our residents got their crowns ready and partied the afternoon away with the wonderful Rachel Rose providing our entertainment and we were joined via zoom with our friends at Crabwall Hall Care Home it was great to see them again.

,

Grand Nationals

All our residents had a great time participating in our Grand National event. One of our ladies wanted to run in our race so she got her costume on and won the trophy!

Cheese and wine tasting

We enjoy a glass or two of wine and what could go better with it than some nice cheese.

Our residents enjoyed tasting the various types of Wine and Cheese throughout the afternoon, whilst listening to some relaxing music throughout.

Flower arranging

We had a donation of flowers to our home and our residents really enjoyed making some amazing bouquets up to display on their dining tables.
