Activities at Sutton Grange Care Home

Here at Sutton Grange we work really hard at providing a range of activities to suit our residents needs. We understand that everyone is different and we enjoy supporting our residents in whatever activities they would like to take part in. With a dedicated Activities co-ordinator and a friendly team of volunteers we are always busy with activities. We have several clubs including; gardening, film, craft, music, puzzles, and singing. We enjoy live music and entertainment, both in and outside of the home, and have regular outings on the minibus to local places of interest. Residents take part in animal assisted therapy, afternoon tea, arts and crafts classes, and visits from local community groups and school children. We believe it is important to provide stimulating, meaningful and relevant activities for our residents in order to make friends, and build a warm community to live.

Alison Wareing

Activities Assistant

Hi, I'm Alison. I am the Activities Assistant here at Sutton Grange, I joined the team in 2016.

I grew up in the local area and started my career working with animals.  After I had my daughter, and before I joined Barchester, I trained as a teacher and taught lipreading and communication.  The skills I learnt have been invaluable in my role today.

Now, I fill my days spending time with our wonderful Residents, helping them to live their lives to the fullest. I try to make a difference in someone’s life each day.

John's 105th Birthday

Congratulations to John who recently celebrated his 105th Birthday! Our residents all got busy making birthday cards especially for John to open on his special day, he was inundated with greetings and well wishes. King Charles & Queen Camilla even took time to send John a birthday card!

Here’s to the next 105 John...!

We think John has possibly been our oldest resident, so huge congratulations. Happy Birthday from Everyone at Sutton Grange. Enjoy your party with your family and friends!

St. Patricks Day

The luck of the Irish was with us as we celebrated St. Patrick's Day.

Residents, family and friends joined us for some themed musical entertainment, with songs that really got our feet moving.  One or two of us did try the Irish jig!

Food was on offer, with cakes made by the Residents and we couldn't help but turn it into a green themed food spread to mark the occasion.

Intergenerational Chocolate Bingo

We all love a good game of bingo here at Sutton Grange, but chocolate bingo - even better!

Some of our lovely ladies took a trip to our local school, Banks of St Stephens to join the school children in a game of bingo in a bid to win some chocolate prizes.

Each of our Residents won an Easter egg, what a treat!

Easter Celebrations

We have been very busy with Easter Celebrations. Our local Vicar, Rebecca visited us to deliver an Easter Church Service and we sang a few of our favourite hymns.  After the service we all gathered for a chat with home-made shortbread and a hot brew.  Rebecca will be back on Friday 12th April at 11am for her next visit.  Please join us.

We have also enjoyed an afternoon making Easter bonnets for our parade and competition.  It's always a treat to let our creative side run wild and we were pleased to welcome family and friends for the occassion.

Ladies Day Out

It was a day dedicated to the ladies as we headed out for a minibus trip to Booths Cafe in Hesketh Bank.

We enjoyed a nice cup of tea/coffee and chatted the afternoon away with one of our ladies family members and our hostess Elise who joined us for a brew and chat.

Afterwards we braved the rain and even though it was tippling down our ladies managed a smile for a photo.

Morning of Games and Magic Table

We had a morning of games and our Residents spent time playing classics like Snakes and Ladders as well as using our amazing Magic Table. We had an impromptu visit from Aga who is the activities lead at Glenroyd Care Home - Barchester Healthcare and she joined in with us in the fun.

In the afternoon we had two ladies from West Lancashire Pensioners Forum who came to chat to our residents about the forum and what they do throughout the year. The Forum had been given £1000 by Barchesters Charitable Foundation and the ladies were more than happy to have their photo taken with their cheque.
