Activities at Sutton Grange Care Home
Here at Sutton Grange we work really hard at providing a range of activities to suit our residents needs. We understand that everyone is different and we enjoy supporting our residents in whatever activities they would like to take part in. With a dedicated Activities co-ordinator and a friendly team of volunteers we are always busy with activities. We have several clubs including; gardening, film, craft, music, puzzles, and singing. We enjoy live music and entertainment, both in and outside of the home, and have regular outings on the minibus to local places of interest. Residents take part in animal assisted therapy, afternoon tea, arts and crafts classes, and visits from local community groups and school children. We believe it is important to provide stimulating, meaningful and relevant activities for our residents in order to make friends, and build a warm community to live.
Alison Wareing
Hi, I'm Alison. I am the Activities Assistant here at Sutton Grange, I joined the team in 2016.
I grew up in the local area and started my career working with animals. After I had my daughter, and before I joined Barchester, I trained as a teacher and taught lipreading and communication. The skills I learnt have been invaluable in my role today.
Now, I fill my days spending time with our wonderful Residents, helping them to live their lives to the fullest. I try to make a difference in someone’s life each day.
Read our brochure 'Life-enriching activities' for more information about life in our care homes.

Life at Sutton Grange Care Home
Macmillan Coffee Morning
We had an amazing time at our McMillan Coffee Afternoon.
It was lovely to see Sutton Grange's bistro filled with chat and laughter as our residents and their families enjoyed, tea/coffee a slice of the various cakes available, which were made by our talented kitchen team and one of our activities coordinators Alison.
All our residents said they had a wonderful time and that we should hold afternoons like this more often.
Celebrating Cliff Richard’s Birthday
Recently all of us here at Sutton Grange had a fabulous time celebrating the great Sir Cliff Richard's birthday.
We learnt all about how Cliff has influenced music throughout his career and that only Cliff and Elvis Presley have reached the UK singles chart in 6 decades.
We also watched performances throughout the day from Cliff and the Shadows and as you can see we had a wonderful time.
Harvest Festival Baking
We recently have been preparing for harvest festival here at Sutton Grange.
Our residents have been making their own version of a salt dough Wheatsheaf to be displayed in our local church, Banks of St Stephens.
As you can see the church have put it pride of place at the front of the church for all to see.
Games Morning
We love playing games here at Sutton Grange and recently we put our skills to the test at our domino club. Our residents had a wonderful time pitting their skill against each other over a nice cup of tea and a biscuit or two.
All the players said how much fun they had playing dominoes and chatting about other fun games they used to play, including monopoly, scrabble and pontoon.
Trip to Meols Hall
Recently we had a break in the torrential rain so we decided to get on our minibus and take a trip to Meols Hall.
Meols Hall dates back to the late 12th century when the manor was granted to Robert de Coudray of Penwortham. The manor has been passed down through marriage and inheritance to the present incumbent.
Our residents had a wonderful time having a tour around the hall and outside in the gardens, which were beautiful.
We were also shown were the hall host weddings throughout the year, before jumping back on the minibus getting back to Sutton Grange for a nice hot cup of tea.
Farm visit and flower picking
We recently took a trip to Long Fold Farm, Bretherton to pick some Sunflowers to decorate our bistro.
Our residents had a wonderful time walking through the field and choosing their own Sunflower.
Afterwards we sat in the seated area and enjoyed an ice cream before we took a short walk back to our minibus and returned to Sutton Grange for our lunch.
