Activities at Sutton Grange Care Home

Here at Sutton Grange we work really hard at providing a range of activities to suit our residents needs. We understand that everyone is different and we enjoy supporting our residents in whatever activities they would like to take part in. With a dedicated Activities co-ordinator and a friendly team of volunteers we are always busy with activities. We have several clubs including; gardening, film, craft, music, puzzles, and singing. We enjoy live music and entertainment, both in and outside of the home, and have regular outings on the minibus to local places of interest. Residents take part in animal assisted therapy, afternoon tea, arts and crafts classes, and visits from local community groups and school children. We believe it is important to provide stimulating, meaningful and relevant activities for our residents in order to make friends, and build a warm community to live.

Alison Wareing

Activities Assistant

Hi, I'm Alison. I am the Activities Assistant here at Sutton Grange, I joined the team in 2016.

I grew up in the local area and started my career working with animals.  After I had my daughter, and before I joined Barchester, I trained as a teacher and taught lipreading and communication.  The skills I learnt have been invaluable in my role today.

Now, I fill my days spending time with our wonderful Residents, helping them to live their lives to the fullest. I try to make a difference in someone’s life each day.

Valentine's Day

Residents and their loved ones spent precious time together celebrating Valentine's Day.

Our wonderful culinary team created a special Valentine's Afternoon Tea and we turned our coffee shop area into a themed restaurant, which later transformed into a dance floor as we were treated to a musical performance from a talented ukulele group.

We enjoyed spreading the love this Valentine's Day!

Race Afternoon

To celebrate Horse Racing Day here at Sutton Grange we had lots of fun at our Virtual Race afternoon.

Our Residents placed their bets and had a great time cheering their favourite nags as they raced towards the finish line. We also chatted about when some of our Residents had a little flutter in their younger days.

Afterwards Residents said they had lots of fun and are looking forward to our next race meet.

Burns celebrations

Residents, families and staff at Sutton Grange Care Home in Banks participated in the annual celebration of Burns Night with traditional Scottish delicacies and themed music.

To mark the Scottish institution, Head Chef, Dean delivered the time-honoured address ‘Great chieftain O’ the pudding race’ – the haggis and Residents enjoyed a tipple of whisky and a nibble of shortbread to round of the event.

National Storytelling Week

Sutton Grange care home in Banks has been finding out joys of National Storytelling Week which takes place from 29 January to 6 February 2024.
Many of the residents at Sutton Grange Care Home have a knack of telling a great story or two, and National Storytelling Week is a perfect opportunity to experience the joy of storytelling.

Storytelling is one of the oldest art forms in the world so, to help keep the custom alive, residents took part in an intergenerational interactive story telling session with Banks of St Stephens School. The children and residents of Sutton Grange engaged in a Dungeons and Dragons style interactive story led by Activities Coordinator Rob Fortune, in which the residents, children and Deputy Headteacher Mrs Mussell were the stars of their own adventure!

Reminiscence Games

Here at Sutton Grange we have recently had a fabulous time reminiscing about holidays, work and games we used to play when we were young.

Our residents played a game in which they had to throw the dice then answer a question from the game read out by Rob our Activities Coordinator.

The room was full of fun and laughter all morning especially when our residents got the funny stories at work question, they had all of us giggling.

Afterwards we had a nice cup of tea and a chat about places we loved to eat and pubs and clubs we used to like to go to.

Festive Entertainment

Sutton Grange had a wonderful music experience when Kristina came to perform for us all.

All our residents were up singing and dancing whilst Kristina performed a whole plethora of songs from golden oldies to some festive favourites. Our residents had an amazing time and said how much fun they had listening and having a dance to Kristina singing.

Everyone was full of smiles throughout the afternoon and were talking about it throughout the evening.
