Activities at Sutton Grange Care Home
Here at Sutton Grange we work really hard at providing a range of activities to suit our residents needs. We understand that everyone is different and we enjoy supporting our residents in whatever activities they would like to take part in. With a dedicated Activities co-ordinator and a friendly team of volunteers we are always busy with activities. We have several clubs including; gardening, film, craft, music, puzzles, and singing. We enjoy live music and entertainment, both in and outside of the home, and have regular outings on the minibus to local places of interest. Residents take part in animal assisted therapy, afternoon tea, arts and crafts classes, and visits from local community groups and school children. We believe it is important to provide stimulating, meaningful and relevant activities for our residents in order to make friends, and build a warm community to live.
Alison Wareing
Hi, I'm Alison. I am the Activities Assistant here at Sutton Grange, I joined the team in 2016.
I grew up in the local area and started my career working with animals. After I had my daughter, and before I joined Barchester, I trained as a teacher and taught lipreading and communication. The skills I learnt have been invaluable in my role today.
Now, I fill my days spending time with our wonderful Residents, helping them to live their lives to the fullest. I try to make a difference in someone’s life each day.

Life at Sutton Grange Care Home
Residents enjoy intergenerational links
Residents at Sutton Grange care home, in Banks, are keeping their generational links in the community alive through their Generation Unite Initiative.
The Generation Unite Initiative is a brain child of the Activity Coordinators at Sutton Grange and the Teachers from Banks St. Stephens School in Banks.
The initiative promotes intergenerational engagement from the wonderful children at the school and the residents of Sutton Grange. Recently both the school and Sutton Grange have engaged in making a Generation Unite Friendship Tree which was designed by Rob at Sutton Grange, the idea being the children and residents putting their thumbprints on the friendship tree and displaying it at Sutton Grange.
A little gentle exercise
The residents of Sutton Grange recently engaged in an exercise session. During the session they worked on improving their motor skills and keeping themselves fit and mobile.
The residents really enjoyed the flow of the session and are looking forward to the next session to see what they can accomplish. After the session they joined a lovely relaxing meditation which everyone enjoyed and said it was a lovely end to the end of the session.
Relaxing in the garden
We have had some lovely weather of late, so we decided to make the most of it and enjoy a sit in the garden having a good old sing a long. The residents love singing and we had all the old favourites aswell as some upto date songs which everyone enjoyed. We also had some ice cream served by our very own ice cream servers Rob and Alison who kept the ice cream flowing throughout the afternoon.
Baking club
Our residents at Sutton Grange love to have a baking session as part of our activity programme. We decided after chatting about it that we should make some shortbread and cookies to have for our afternoon tea. Everyone really enjoyed mixing the ingredients as you can see and the end result were very tasty treats which we enjoyed over a cup of tea and a reminiss in the afternoon about what the residents used to make on their ‘Baking Day’
Residents receive visit from pirates!
Residents were in good spirits at Sutton Grange care home, in Banks, as residents engaged in Talk Like A Pirate Day.
International Talk Like a Pirate Day is a parodic holiday created in 1995 by John Baur (Ol' Chumbucket) and Mark Summers (Cap'n Slappy), of Albany, Oregon U.S., who proclaimed September 19 each year as the day when everyone in the world should talk like a pirate An observer of this holiday would greet friends not with "Hello, everyone!" but with "Ahoy, maties!" or "Ahoy, me hearties!" The holiday, and its observance, springs from a romanticized view of the Golden Age Of Piracy
Magic table fun!
Sutton Grange Residents enjoyed an interactive session on the homes magic table which was a roaring success. The magic table is designed to support residents living with dementia by keeping them engaged through specialised games. The light projections respond to hand and arm movement allowing residents to stay stimulated and most of all, have fun!
