Activities at The Cedars Bourne Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.
Helen Hudson
Hello. I’m Helen, the Activities Coordinator at The Cedars. I joined the team in 2021 and I have lots of skills that I can use to create an interesting and varied programme of activities, events and celebrations for residents to enjoy. I am a qualified holistic therapist and offer an holistic approach to activities in the home, I love creating new activities that our residents enjoy, taking residents out on day trips and promoting wellbeing through lots of different activities. When I am not at work I love playing my clarinet, crocheting and art - I use all of these in my role.

Life at The Cedars Bourne Care Home
Sculpting for Halloween
Residents enjoyed getting creative, sculpting with colourful clay to make figures for Halloween. Once the residents got used to the feel of the clay, they started to use their artist minds to mould and shape some Halloween figures like a pumpkin, cat and a mouse.
Dog Competition
Residents have been judging photos of dogs that have been submitted by family or staff. They individually chose their favourite top 3 pictures to determine the winners.
Each dog that took part received a toy and the top prize of a dog grooming voucher goes to the dog with the most votes. The winner of the competition was Coco.
Brave the Shave
Two team members have been raising money for MacMillan by taking part in Brave the Shave. Rachel (Care Assistant) had her head shaved and Kieran (Care Assistant) had his legs waxed, although we had run out of wax strips, we finished his legs with the electric shaver. This all took place in our beautiful garden with a few residents and team members watching to give them our support.
Fish & Chip Day
Residents at The Cedars enjoyed Fish & Chip Day. They not only ate the food, they had a magnetic fishing game to play in the afternoon. We all agreed this fishing game is much easier for co-ordination than the fishing hooks.
Jean, a resident, said she had a so much fun with the game that we should get it out again on another day we have fish and chips.
100th Birthday Celebrations
Residents at The Cedars recently enjoyed her 100th birthday, celebrating with staff and her family during her visit on this big birthday.
Staff had the gazebo and her bedroom decorated with balloons and banners. Our chef had made a beautifully decorated cake for the occasion.
Head Start Nursery
The Cedars put together an activity and craft hamper to go to Head Start Nursery in Bourne for Friendship Week and to say a huge thank you to all of the children for all of their pictures and cards that they have been sending our residents during this time.
Head Start children usually visit us here every week; our residents are really missing them all and wanted to send the hamper to say thank you. The children were really excited to see what goodies they had.
