Activities at The Cedars Bourne Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Helen Hudson

Activities Coordinator

Hello. I’m Helen, the Activities Coordinator at The Cedars. I joined the team in 2021 and I have lots of skills that I can use to create an interesting and varied programme of activities, events and celebrations for residents to enjoy. I am a qualified holistic therapist and offer an holistic approach to activities in the home, I love creating new activities that our residents enjoy, taking residents out on day trips and promoting wellbeing through lots of different activities. When I am not at work I love playing my clarinet, crocheting and art - I use all of these in my role.

Life at The Cedars Bourne Care Home

Welcome back to indoor visits

We are delighted to welcome designated family members back to The Cedars for indoor visits. Our first much-anticipated bedroom visit was an emotional and heartwarming occasion as it was Mother's Day when Sue visited her Mum, Doris, in her own room. Sue brought flowers and a teddy for Doris, and said afterwards, "I can't believe this is the first time I have held Mum's hand for a year. I am grateful to the staff for arranging my visit." The Cedars is following strict protocols including Lateral Flow Tests for all indoor visitors and providing PPE to ensure the safety and wellbeing of residents, staff and visitors.

Mothering Sunday

At The Cedars in Bourne we spent the whole weekend pampering our lady residents for Mother’s Day. They have had their nails painted, their hair done and enjoyed plenty of chocolates. On Mothering Sunday they each received some daffodils from us as well as gifts, cards and visits from loved ones. Anne liked arranging her flowers and Peggy was over the moon with the handmade cards she received from her twin great-grandchildren.

Memorial for Maureen

Residents at The Cedars have put together a montage of photos and a poem in memory of Maureen, who worked in our Housekeeping Team. Maureen had a big impact on residents and colleagues during her time at our home and was always willing to help in every way she could. The photos included in the heart montage portray how much she made other people smile and laugh. She was a very sociable person and didn’t like having her photo taken on her own, only with others. Thank you for being our friend, Maureen.

Making Cupcakes

Residents at The Cedars got together in the dining room to bake and decorate cupcakes, with a little support and guidance from Bobby who works in our Housekeeping Team. Staff from all teams like to get involved in activities from time to time to get to know residents better, and residents enjoy finding out more about staff members. The cakes were decorated with sprinkles and chocolate buttons, and were shared with friends at The Cedars.

Pancake Day

Great fun was had at The Cedars on Shrove Tuesday. Residents took part in a pancake tossing challenge to see who could get their pancake into the air the highest and catch it, with a chocolate prize for the winners.
