Activities at Thistle Hill Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

International Dot Day

Residents at the Thistle Hill care home in Knaresborough celebrated International Dot Day.

International dot day is a global celebration of creativity in the classroom held on September 15 or around this date. It was inspired by The Dot, a 2003 picture book written and illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds. The Dot tells the story of a girl named Vashti who says she can’t draw.

Our residents took great inspiration from this story and although some of them laughed that they hadn’t painted for a long time or not being able to recollect when they were last creative. They took up their paint brushes and produced some dazzling works dot inspired artwork to great effect.

Residents enjoy day with butterflies

The middle of august saw the residents at the Thistle Hill care home enjoy butterfly day.

This saw them create a beautiful display of colourful butterflies for the lounge area, before watching a documentary about the great British butterfly. After lunch our residents were able to go out into the beautiful grounds of thistle hill and observe some beautiful butterflies in their natural habitat.

Residents pick up their cameras

On 19th August photography lovers across the globe will be celebrating World Photo Day. The main aim of World Photo Day is to inspire positive change across the world. Connecting people and raising awareness through the use of photography.

Founded in 2009 by the Australian photographer Korske Ara, the date of the 19th August was chosen to celebrate World Photo Day as it is the date that the French government purchased the patent of the daguerreotype (an early method of photography). The date also coincides with World Humanitarian Day.
