Activities at Thistle Hill Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Life at Thistle Hill Care Home

Out with the old, in with the new!

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Thistle Hill Care Centre in Knaresborough, celebrated bringing in the New Year in style when Big Ben struck midnight this New Year’s Eve. The Thistle Hill Care Centre’s New Year’s Eve party was in full swing with festive foods, open bar, dancing and games.  Residents enjoyed cocktails and a selection of sweet and savoury treats.  General Manager, Mandy Scott said: “Our residents love a party and New Year’s Eve has to be the best reason to stay up late and see in the New Year.  We’re all really excited to see what 2023 has to offer us all.”

Alpaca adventure!

There was huge excitement at the Thistle Hill Care Centre as the Alpacas came by to visit the residents and visiting children.  Staff, residents and visiting nursery children at Barchester’s Thistle Hill Care Centre, in Knaresborough, had a wonderful time learning about the very friendly Alpacas from Joe’s exotic animal zoo. Finding out about their habits and what they like to eat.  Several of the residents got to feed the reindeers some of their favourite treats.  Reindeers are natural foragers and would normally eat moss, ferns, grasses and leaves so a carrot is a rare treat for reindeer in the wild.

Virtual trip to the Donkey Sanctuary

Across our services, Residents enjoyed a fantastic virtual tour of the Donkey Sanctuary Manchester.  Residents were thrilled to meet the lovely herd of donkeys, including Henry and his best friend Tiny Tim and to learn more about their every day care.  They were introduced to the sanctuary’s work and the impact they make to the lives of donkeys in need worldwide.  The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all.

It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.  This weekend around our home, the Christmas decorations have begun to fall into place as we look ahead with excitement to the festive season.

Mark was ably assisted by some of our wonderful residents in decorating our Christmas Trees.  Elsewhere Jean and Don enjoyed a trip to Skipton Market with Adrian and Ibrahim.

The group had a lovely walk around the famous canal, taking in the wonderful scenery.

A walk on the wild side

Our residents took a walk on the wild side today, with a visit from Tzarkan, a triple morphed carpet python.

He is six years old, measuring about 6 feet and his exotic name is pronounced Zar-Kan whose morphs are zebre, caramel and tiger.

Our residents and colleagues were enthralled by our visiting reptilian friend.  Our residents on Ripley and Farnham carried on with our Christmas decorations as we continue to look forward to the festive season.

Skittles art

We'd like to begin by thanking the friends and relatives who attended today's meeting, your suggestions, thoughts and ideas are invaluable to us as we constantly strive to give our residents the happiest and fulfilling lives possible.

In the home Daria and her residents continued the Christmas decorations. As our wonderful colleagues and residents on Memory Lane, took part in some festive themed arts and crafts.  Also our residents took part in and had lots of fun with 'Skittles Art'

Skittles Art is mesmerizing variation of the popular rainbow skittles experiment, this dissolving candy art & science activity uses a variety of colorful candies to make pictures and designs that quickly fill in with color from the dissolving candy.
