Activities at Thistle Hill Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Keeping residents connected

Residents are overjoyed at the Thistle Hill Care Centre in Knaresborough, as Barchester Healthcare has implemented a visiting suite for residents to continue to spend time with their loved ones for the autumn and winter seasons in addition to the outdoor visiting that has been on offer for those able for many months.

Balancing resident wellbeing and safety is at the forefront of Barchester Healthcare’s thinking and they understand how important it is for residents and their family and friends to be able to spend time together in the safest way possible.

Poems of Kindness

Our friends and students of King James School in Knaresborough sent our residents a collection of heart-warming poems and artwork.

This was warmly received by our residents who enjoyed listening to the written work of the students.

Hazel a resident at thistle hill said “I was really touched when I heard these kind poems, they were so well written and it is lovely to know that the wider community in Knaresborough is thinking of us”

Residents honour the fallen heros

Residents and staff at Thistle Hill care home honoured those who lost their lives during the First and Second World War by hosting moving memorial services to help our residents reminisce and remember their loved ones.

The event was also marked by residents taking part in themed arts and crafts that helped them to discuss their own memories of war time Britain

The residents rounded off remembrance Sunday with a great British tea party whilst listening to war time songs and poems playing on our big screen.

Halloween fun for Residents

Residents and the team enjoyed a fabulous day of Halloween fun and games at the Thistle Hill care home in Knaresborough.

The home cares for residents over a variety of ages but the Halloween antics can be fun for all. Activities co-ordinator Mark said "the residents threw themselves into the activities even though celebrating Halloween has only been more popular in recent years.

They played Halloween themed games and had a good dance to the Halloween inspired music with classics being played such as “the monster mash” and the classic theme song from “ghostbusters”
