Activities at Wadhurst Manor Care Home

On a weekly basis we have many visitors to the home from the people like the University of the Third age and local small animal farms, who bring in their chickens and sheep. We also like to go out shopping and on day trips to local garden centres and when the weather is good picnics and tours of the beautiful local countryside. We have speciality days at the home which could be a theme of a country, or for specific times of year, including Halloween, Bonfire Night or Christmas. We have card games and art classes and a serious knitting team in the home who produce blankets and premature baby clothes for the local maternity unit.

Sarah Smith

Assistant Activities Coordinator

I have worked at Wadhurst Manor in many different roles since December 2011. Prior to this I worked as a nurse, exercise teacher and and preschool supervisor. I have 4 lovely children who are now grown up and travelling the world. My hobbies include visiting my children, singing, dancing, hiking, mountain biking, skiing, reading and amateur dramatics.I find enabling residents to remain active and engaged both physically and mentally is a wonderfully rewarding job. I particularly enjoy working on our memory lane units becoming immersed in their realities, enabling them to live their best lives by concentrating on what they can do not what they can't.

Life at Wadhurst Manor Care Home

West End Visits Wadhurst

WOW, what a truly amazing night thank you, Olivia Safe and friends, for bringing the West End to Wadhurst! Not only was I lucky enough to go with my mum, but I was given a last-minute ticket and knew exactly who to take. Our resident ambassador Audrey loves all things musical, but I was not prepared for her reaction.

We were lucky enough to have front row seats and from the first song she was in awe, clapping and calling out WOW, just amazing after each song. In the interval, she turned to me and said, "What did I do to deserve this! I have seen a lot of shows, but I can truly say this is the best thing to happen to me in my life!"

At the end, she was one of the first on her feet to give a standing ovation. The lovely cameraman Phil was so taken by Audrey's reaction that he took us back to meet Olivia and friends and she had her picture taken with them and they signed her programme.  What a truly magical and memorable evening and one we will never forget. Afterward, Audrey could not stop thanking me and said, "You have made my dream come true"

Valentines Day Celebrations

Residents have been busy all week preparing for Valentine's Day, making cards and table decorations.

We invited residents partners in for a wonderful lunch of roast beef and Yorkshire pudding with all the trimmings.

We were then treated to a piano recital by Jane Spurr who included several of her own compositions followed by an amazing Valentine's cake and refreshments.

We were also able to celebrate with one of our carers who got married yesterday. Residents were over joyed to see the lovely photos and wish them every happiness.

10K steps a day challenge!

We made day 1!

With 1 of our walking group out, we had to recruit a little extra help from some of the residents. Three of us managed to walk up to the village and were rewarded with meeting Mabel the dog and buying a pack of snicker bars.

3,055 step each 9,160 steps total. Then 2 residents lapped the garden a couple of times adding over 1,000 steps each and another resident lapped the corridor 3 times 150 steps a go adding 450 steps to our total. We'll done everyone. We just need to keep it up now!
