Activities at Washington Grange Care Home
Our group and individual activities are designed to mentally and physically stimulate those we care for. We try to organise a mix of activities and events that reflect the interests and capabilities of residents for anyone and everyone to participate in. Our evenings of afternoon entertainment is enjoyed by residents and their families, who are all encouraged to sing along and dance. We try to involve our local community; members of the clergy often visit to hold lovely afternoon church services for residents. It is essential that our team are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for those we support through person-centred activities, and that everyone has a fun and active time here at Washington Grange.

Life at Washington Grange Care Home
Little Onions visit Residents
There was a magical atmosphere at Washington Grange when the young children from Little Onions visited the home to deliver sweets and biscuits to the Residents spreading a little festive cheer.
The children and residents discussed what they had asked Santa for at Christmas. Our varied life enrichment programme keeps residents active, and provides a daily choice of engaging physical, mental and spiritual activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities.
A virtual trip to Donkey Sanctuary
Across our services, Residents enjoyed a fantastic virtual tour of the Donkey Sanctuary Manchester. Residents were thrilled to meet the lovely herd of donkeys, including Henry and his best friend Tiny Tim and to learn more about their every day care. They were introduced to the sanctuary’s work and the impact they make to the lives of donkeys in need worldwide. The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all.
Armistice Day
Today we commemorated the signing of the Armistice Day agreement on the day that the guns finally fell silent. Our residents joined the rest of the nation in holding a two-minute silence at the eleventh hour, on the eleventh day, of the eleventh month.
As well as marking Armistice Day by wearing poppies and observing the national two minute silence, our residents took part in therapeutic activities such as listening to old wartime songs and enjoy a slice of a specially designed cake.
It is very important that we keep the memories of those who fought in the World Wars and honour the contribution of everyone involved.

Trip to the seaside!
Oh we do like to be beside the seaside here at Washington Grange! Our residents shared stories from the past, a resident used to play for South Shields football team. A trip to the seaside wouldn't be complete without visiting the fish and chip shop.
Spooky hot chocolate afternoon
Halloween preparations are starting here at Washington Grange. Lesley organized a 'Spooky Hot Chocolate' afternoon tea. The hot chocolates loaded with cream and marshmallows, and cakes went down a treat by all!
History of Botanical garden
Our homes enjoyed a wonderful virtual tour of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh with Community Engagement Manager, Charlotte Walker, and Botanic Cottage Operations Co-ordinator, Laura Gallagher.
The residents were thrilled to learn more about the history of the beautiful Garden, which is now a home to an impressive plant collection from around the world.
Charlotte and Laura also gave a demonstration of making fresh herbal tea and were happy to answer our questions. The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all who joined.
