Activities at Waterside Court Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Making Wallingford Dementia Friendly

Waterside Court are striving to make Wallingford and the surrounding communities Dementia Friendly. We have been busy making contact with the local community, including Wallingford Town Council, to help support us with this goal.

Wallingford Town Council gave our Home Services Advisor the opportunity to speak at the full council meeting on Monday 7th December. We are thrilled to say that they have agreed to help us with this very important cause!

The Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends programme is the biggest ever initiative to change people’s perceptions of dementia. It aims to transform the way the nation thinks, acts and talks about the condition.

With the pandemic affecting people’s abilities to socialise and connect with their local community, creating this network of understanding is more important than ever.

If you would like become a Dementia Friend, sign up to one of our following sessions:

Waterside Court's Christmas Art Competition!

Six local primary schools in Wallingford are taking part in our Christmas competition!

We have asked children to design festive drawings and write warm messages to residents in our sister homes. Entries will be collected by our General Manager on Thursday 17th December and drawings will be displayed in our Marketing Suite for a week, before being delivered to residents in our nearby homes.

Voting will take place over the Christmas break and winners will be announced on Tuesday 5th January, with prizes being delivered on the same day. Each of our homes will pick three winners and there will also be a Facebook prize-winner, so follow us now to have your vote! @BarchesterWatersideCourt

Special thanks to:

St John's Primary School - Wallingford, St Nicholas C.E. Infants' School, Crowmarsh Gifford Primary School, Cholsey Primary School, Benson CofE Primary School, RAF Benson Community Primary School.

Intergenerational links between schools and care homes have incredible benefits to both residents and children; we look forward to working with these schools in future and our residents eagerly await lots of creative entries!
