Activities at West Abbey Care Home
Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in. There are regular outings in the minibus to nearby places of interest, as well as visits from the Donkey sanctuary, musicians and entertainers. We also host evenings such as our Cheese & Wine evenings and BBQ's in the summer, that we encourage relatives to come to. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained. We encourage our residents to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can to ensure that life at West Abbey is fun and active for all.
Nikki Griffee
Hi, I'm Nikki and I originally came to work at West Abbey in 2018 and have worked in various roles supporting our residents.
What I enjoy about my job is that no two days are the same and most of all, I thoroughly enjoy everyday activities with the residents including 1-2-1 room visits all the way to professional singers visiting us. A firm favourite of mine and the residents at West Abbey is using our mini-bus weekly and visiting local nature hot spots! I look forward to welcoming you to our home.

Book Club
The start of our Community Book club was a hit at west Abbey yesterday evening. We have started with the book Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman. We read up to chapter 4 and we have all decided to read up to chapter 20, so if anyone would like to join us next month on the 2nd February then pop along and join in!
Happy New Year
Our residents and colleagues have been busy enjoying a New Years Party to welcome in 2024, everyone enjoyed party food and some fizz! We are looking forward to making more memories in 2024. From everyone at West Abbey we wish you all a very Happy New Year.
Employee of the Month
Here at West Abbey we have been enjoying our monthly celebration of Employee of the Month. For December we have awarded Dani, our Clinical Lead the certificate and gift for all his hard work and dedication to our residents. Congratulations Dani!
Father Christmas
We have had a visit from Father Christmas today who brought presents all round. The residents also enjoyed additional gifts which were donated from our local Scout group! After enjoying the exchange of presents our residents then sat down for a three course meal. Our residents and relatives would like to say thank you to the activities team who ensured our tables were laid to perfection, with all festive trimmings, just as you would have at home.
Fun and Games, Snakes and Ladders at West Abbey
This afternoon, some of our residents and their family members enjoyed playing a game of snakes and ladders on a HUGE game-board featuring one hundred squares, which was placed in the middle of the floor in one of our lounges.
This Classic game, fun for all ages, is based on the outcomes of rolling a dice and moving your coloured counter up the ladders and down the snakes, but if you roll a 6, you get another roll for free and the objective is to get to the top of the board, whilst dealing with the consequences of each roll of the dice.
Climbing ladders and dodging snakes was so much fun and laughter was heard outside the lounge and all the way along the corridor, as well as the "oh no’s" as players were sent slithering down the snakes!!!
West Abbey Care Centre and singing Golden Oldies - Yeovil's got talent
Some of our residents recently boarded the minibus for a short journey to join local singing group 'Goldies Sing & Smile UK' known simply as “Goldies", now in its sixteenth year and endorsed by Sir Cliff Richard (Patron), at Mudford Recreation Centre.
We enjoyed a sing-a-long to some popular, well-known songs including 'YMCA' with all the actions as well as more recently recorded songs.
It was nice to meet up with some of our residents' relatives and we look forward to attending another session again soon - watch out 'Britain's Got Talent', here we come.
