Activities at Westvale House Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.
Joanne Sherwood
Hi, I'm Joanne and I'm the Activities Co-ordinator at Westvale House! I joined the team in December 2023 and absolutely love my role. Getting to spend time with our residents every day and getting to know each of them more and more, is such a privilege.
I get to create and tailor our activities to the preferences of each individual resident, making sure they're all doing things they'll absolutely love, and that brings me and the rest of the team so much joy. Making each of their days special is what I believe my job is all about.

Life at Westvale House Care Home
Jumper fun at Westvale
Residents and staff at Westvale Care home in Warrington were helping to make the world a better place by wearing a festival jumper on Friday 13th December in aid of Save the Children’s annual fundraising event, Christmas Jumper Day.
All residents and staff at the home were encouraged to buy, borrow or decorate their own special Christmas jumpers and donate to Save the Children and had fun in doing so!
Some of the residents have been very creative and decorated their own glitzy knitwear with tinsel, stars, baubles and snowflakes. Everyone had a wonderful time!
Home donates hampers
Residents, relatives and staff at Westvale have been spreading a little festive cheer to those in need and have been creating ‘treat’ hampers which have been delivered into the community, those benefiting have included the Shannon Bradshaw Truest and Roy Humphreys Trust in Longford.
The home would like to thank everyone for their generous donations and hope those receiving will benefit. Seasonal greetings to all from Westvale.
Santa makes surprise visit
Santa said, “it is all about putting a smile on their faces, and we decided not to let Coved beat us, so we continue to drive around the Warrington area”. We will also be making a stop at Warrington hospital on Christmas day, as we do every year.”
Santa (Adrian Derbyshire), who set up the Adrian Derbyshire Foundation, to raise money for the Julia Derbyshire Campaign for mental health awareness will continue to visit the Warrington Area.
Local girl delivers handwritten cards for Residents
Local school girl, Isadora has continued to support Westvale House by handwriting over 50 Christmas cards for each of the homes residents as she spreads a little festive cheer with the home. We were able to pass Isadora a Christmas gift from Westvale presented by Resident, Vera Rudd during the homes National Elf Day celebrations.
World Kindness Day
Residents at Westvale House have created beautiful hand-made thank you cards for Warrington Food Larder who very kindly donated beautiful flowers to the home. The Residents also made cards for their community friends at Jack and Jill’s nursery and to St Philips Church and School. The Residents have been overwhelmed so many wonderful gifts, cards, letters and pictures from their local community.
Children in Need
The staff at Westvale dressed up for Children In Need and enjoyed our Virtual Duck Race! Resident Mari Cole won first place with Quack man & Bobbin, 2nd Place went to Coral our Deputy manager with Quack man & Cheese and 3rd place went to our Chef Maureen with Peaky Blinders!
