Activities at Westvale House Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.
Joanne Sherwood
Hi, I'm Joanne and I'm the Activities Co-ordinator at Westvale House! I joined the team in December 2023 and absolutely love my role. Getting to spend time with our residents every day and getting to know each of them more and more, is such a privilege.
I get to create and tailor our activities to the preferences of each individual resident, making sure they're all doing things they'll absolutely love, and that brings me and the rest of the team so much joy. Making each of their days special is what I believe my job is all about.

Life at Westvale House Care Home
Residents Honour the Fallen
Residents of Westvale commemorated Remembrance Day on Sunday 10th November, where they joined the rest of the United Kingdom in holding a two-minute silence at 11am.
As well as marking Remembrance Day by wearing poppies and watching the televised service, some residents were taken to the local cenotaph to commemorate the members of the armed forces who died in the line of duty.
In the days leading up to Remembrance Sunday Residents participated in Remembrance arts and crafts and an afternoon live performance from vocalist, Debby who took everyone down memory lane and had them all singing along before the church service.
Residents Recognise Yom Kippur
Residents, families and staff welcomed Jewish Counsellor, Geoff Pearl from St Helens to the home as part of their regular afternoon teas as their guest speaker to come and speak who shared the history of the Jewish Festival Yom Kippur, also known as Day Of Atonement.
The residents learnt that it is the holiest day of the year for the Jews and its central themes are atonement and repentance and how they traditionally observe this holy day with an approximate 25-hour period of fasting and intensive prayer, often spending most of the day in synagogue services. Everyone enjoyed the informative talk and group session.
