Activities at White Lodge Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators here at White Lodge enjoy the fulfillment of helping residents feel important and a part of something. Meaningful moments are created through laughter and comfort. A varied activities programme is offered for the betterment of residents' bodies and minds, including music for health, 'Oomph' sessions and chair Zumba, in addition to coffee and cake groups that all inevitably lead to giggles and old fashioned singalongs. Also, we organise parties, trips out, walks in the country, bus outings and wonderful entertainers to visit our home. A sneaky tipple is always welcomed with cheese and crackers and, at the end of the day, it is important to go home knowing our activities have made a difference.

White Lodge Donate Plants to Local School's Gardening Club

White Lodge visited St Francis C Of E primary school in Swindon to donate plants to the school's after school gardening club. Activities Coordintor Tina, was accompanied by Customer Relationship Manager, Catherine and Resident Ambassadors Jeanie and Peter, as they dropped off the plants, there was a wonderful warm welcome from the year 1,2 and 3 children who attend the club weekly. Deputy Head, Mrs Millsop and year 2 Teaching Assistants Miss Bunce and Mrs Blackmur kindly showed us around the planting and where the new plants will go. The children took time to explain about their compost bin, plans for further planting and how much they love spending time outside. The pretty cosmos was planted from seed by the club and is blooming. St Francis planted woodland to create their own forest school, there are bee hives and the current planting is in painted old tyres - all such wonderful examples of sustainability. Peter and Jeanie chatted to the children, and after an invite to return - we can't wait to watch the garden grow.

Residents Mark Remembrance with Poppy Display

At White Lodge we have residents who were children and teens during World War II along with many war time babies. As we put together this year's remembrance display it was so interesting to hear about their memories of those years. The display showed off the beautiful painted poppies made by the residents, with the focus this year on war time poetry. Tina printed off well known poems, along with putting poetry books on display which residents have been reading. It was time to  reflect on those who have not grown old.
