Activities at White Lodge Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators here at White Lodge enjoy the fulfillment of helping residents feel important and a part of something. Meaningful moments are created through laughter and comfort. A varied activities programme is offered for the betterment of residents' bodies and minds, including music for health, 'Oomph' sessions and chair Zumba, in addition to coffee and cake groups that all inevitably lead to giggles and old fashioned singalongs. Also, we organise parties, trips out, walks in the country, bus outings and wonderful entertainers to visit our home. A sneaky tipple is always welcomed with cheese and crackers and, at the end of the day, it is important to go home knowing our activities have made a difference.

Memory Lane Activities

Barchester Healthcare continue to lead the way in dementia care, with the highest standards of specialist training for the teams working in the Memory Lane Communities.  White Lodge's Memory Lane is well thought out from the layout of the community through to the dementia friendly crockery.  Activities are carefully planned using specialist resources, White Lodge took delivery this week of a wonderful range of new puzzles and memorabilia.   The residents enjoyed a stimulating afternoon of games, painting and reminiscing, followed by afternoon tea.

A Day At The Races

The residents thoroughly enjoyed a day at the races and all agreed this will be a regular event at White Lodge.  In the warmth and comfort of one of the lounges they cheered on their favourite horse, enjoying tea and cake whilst having a flutter.  One resident picked a few favourites and won a tidy sum - shame it wasn't real money!

Burns Night Celebrations

White Lodge residents paid homage to Robert Burns in their celebrations of Burns Night.  Our bonnie Resident Ambassador, Jeanie joined Martine, our Activities Coordinator in reciting a selection of the writers famous poems, including "A Red, Red Rose".   Robbie was toasted with a wee dram of Whiskey and Scottish Shortbread, continuing into the evening with a traditional supper of haggis, neeps and tatties.

Covid 19 Vaccinations

Staff and residents at White Lodge were delighted to be invited to have the Covid-19 vaccination by Purton Surgery.  Dr Chandran visited the home with a nursing team to administer the vaccine to all the residents as well as the remaining staff who had not had the vaccination earlier this month at the Great Western Hospital.

There was a real buzz around the home, with staff so pleased they have been a priority for the vaccination so they can help keep our residents safe.   Visits are still taking place at White Lodge in our visitor's pod, but we very much look forward to welcoming visitors into the home again in the future.

White Lodge are welcoming new residents both for permanent and respite stays.

White Lodge would like to introduce Jeanie and Peter our Resident Ambassadors.   They play an important role at White Lodge, we sincerely appreciate and recognise their contribution.   Jeanie has been an an ambassador for sometime, enjoying social events.  Jeanie holds coffee mornings to welcome and introduce new residents, along with enjoying playing dominos and organising events.

Peter joined Jeanie as an ambassador last year.  Peter is a keen gardener and is very much looking forward tot he warmer weather, he is keen for residents, families and the local community to take part in the up and coming planting project, Countryfile's Plant Britain.  Peter also enjoys crossword puzzles while enjoying a coffee in the White Lodge cafe.

A noisy visit from the Reaper Rats

A massive thank you to the Reaper Rats of Swindon who rode into the White Lodge car park on their handsome motorbikes, bearing chocolates for residents. Greeted by Jeanie, Resident Ambassador, they chatted and wished everyone well for Christmas before making an impressive but noisy exit, revving their engines.
