Activities at White Lodge Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators here at White Lodge enjoy the fulfillment of helping residents feel important and a part of something. Meaningful moments are created through laughter and comfort. A varied activities programme is offered for the betterment of residents' bodies and minds, including music for health, 'Oomph' sessions and chair Zumba, in addition to coffee and cake groups that all inevitably lead to giggles and old fashioned singalongs. Also, we organise parties, trips out, walks in the country, bus outings and wonderful entertainers to visit our home. A sneaky tipple is always welcomed with cheese and crackers and, at the end of the day, it is important to go home knowing our activities have made a difference.

Games on the Lawn

Here at White Lodge we have enjoyed the last sunny days of the summer, playing some outdoor games on the lawn. Our two Peters are playing croquet and Doreen enjoyed having a go at quoits. There were lots of smiles.

Cocktails and mocktails

At White Lodge we have enjoyed an afternoon of cocktail making. We created delicious, fruity Bellinis, Mojitos, Sparkles, a punch and watermelon lemonade, all served from our tropical drinks trolley. A few residents and staff enjoyed dressing up in tropical party accessories, too.

Making Harvest Decorations

At White Lodge Care Home we are taking part in the Barchester inter-home Harvest Decorations Competition. Over the past few days residents and staff have shown their creative skills by making and decorating salt dough vegetables for our harvest display. We really enjoyed making peas, carrots, parsnips, potatoes, runner beans, sweetcorn and bread sticks. We even made a salt dough basket to put it all in.

Preparing for Cocktail Afternoon

White Lodge is planning an afternoon of cocktails and mocktails and the ever-helpful Peter has been assisting Nigel, our Head of Maintenance, to make a special trolley for the event. Peter was very happy spending some time outside in the sun and fresh air painting the trolley. When it was dry we moved it to our Activities Room where Peter continued to make the trolley exactly what we need. He added a fake grass roof and some lights. Her was very pleased with the end result and so were we. We are now just looking forward to our cocktail event. Thanks for all your hard work, Peter!

Flower arranging

We spent an afternoon arranging flowers at White Lodge. The beautiful results smell wonderful and are now around our home for everyone to enjoy.

Making our Christmas Cake

We have made our Christmas cake already, using a Mary Berry recipe and involving residents in the whole process. Our two Doreens chopped the cherries and stirred the mixture, Jeannie added brandy to the fruit and Sue licked the spoon. The smell as it cooked was gorgeous and it was a fun afternoon that brought back memories of Christmases past. We can’t wait to try our cake in December.
