Activities at Windmill Manor Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

It's a Goal!!

The staff of Windmill Manor continued to Get Barchester Moving with “It’s a Goal”.

Two teams of female staff members went head-to-head to see who could score the most goals whilst keeping on the MOVE and continue raising money for Barchester Foundation.

Fantastic afternoon with gorgeous weather, the supporters gathered in the garden to cheer on the chosen team.

Whispering Willows V Memory Madams.

It went to a shoot-out where the Memory Madams nailed it with 1 Goal more than the opponents to take the prize.

All staff enjoyed having fun and all agree

EVERYONE’S A WINNER AT WINDMILL MANOR!

Get Barchester Moving

To help boost the Foundation’s coffers in 2024, on 20th June staff and residents and family, friends and members of the community joined to watch 6 members of our staff take part in an 800 metre track event at Holland Sports, our local club. Everyone came together to Get Moving and helped to raise money for this fantastic cause.

We had the most wonderful day, it was so lovely to see everyone come together to take part and raise such a brilliant amount of money for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation, it is a great charity that helps many people in need, particularly lonely older people, which is a cause very close to our hearts.  Plus it’s good for our own wellbeing to move as much as we can.  We want to say massive thanks to everyone involved, we all had so much fun and we helped raise vital funds into the bargain!”

Fiona's Farm Therapy

A unique opportunity to engage with farm animals to increase wellbeing.

The pleasure was all ours when Fiona and her Farm Friends visited Windmill Manor.

Surprise!

Resident at Windmill Manor Care Home, Dinah Walker belonged to “Surrey Harmony Chorus” for over 15 years.

Surrey Harmony has been established for over 30 years and is a women’s chorus based in Coulsdon, Surrey. The chorus is part of the UK barbershop organisation, Ladies Association

Of British Barbershop Singers (LABBS).

Surry Harmony is a group of friendly, fun-loving women who meet each week to enjoy the pleasure of singing four-part acappella in the barbershop style. We sing for fun, to entertain and in competition.

Dinah has lived at Windmill Manor for 1 year and is loved by staff and residents alike. Staff at the home were delighted when approached by a member of “Surrey Harmony Chorus”

who asked if it was possible to come and sing for Dinah. This was going to be a dream come true, as they knew how much the group and singing meant to Dinah,

they all wanted to be there to see the smile on her face when she realised who had walked in.

Mention “Barbershop” to most people and the first image that comes to minds four chaps in straw boaters and natty, candy striped blazers.

That’s where barbershop started, but its’s come a long way in the past 100 years! Barbershop is a style of close harmony singing, sung in four parts:

Tenor, Lead, Baritone and Bass which Dinah sang.

In response to this wonderful surprise, Dinah said “ I was on the verge of tears. It is such an amazing feeling to see my friends from “Surrey Harmony Chorus” and be

Able to sing with them again,

Easter Bunny Hunt and Egg Decorating Workshop

Staff and residents at Windmill Manor have been having fantastic fun hiding Easter bunnies all over our beautiful garden for local children, families and friends to find.

We decided to challenge the children to find 20 Easter bunnies. The children then had to write down the name of each bunny next to the appropriate number and race against each other to get to the finish line first.

It was so lovely first to participate with the children to decorate eggs with brightly coloured paints and pens.

Dinah Walker a resident at Windmill Manor said “it is so lovely to enjoy the Easter celebration with children and families, the noise of laughter when the children were running around the garden in teams was a joy to watch”

An EGG-cellent day was had by all.
