Activities at Windmill Manor Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Dream come true.

Making dreams come true

Resident, John Balmforth, at Windmill Manor previously worked for the late Sir David Brown an English industrialist who owned Aston Martin, in Huddlersfield, Yorkshire. John was keen to see what the new Aston Martins were offering 70 years later.

John has lived at  Windmill Manor for 3 ½  years and is loved by staff and residents alike. Staff at the home were delighted to be a part of making his dream come true, as they knew how much it meant to him, and they all wanted to see John’s face when they told him they would be going to “Supercar Sunday” at Hever Castle.

Staff first found out about John’s dream and passion for Aston Martin several years ago and ever since then, they have been dedicated to helping him achieve it. John was  accompanied by Sherry Owen Head of Activities, and Lesley Witherington a member of the Care team who were there to witness this momentous occasion.

In response to this wonderful surprise, John Balmforth, said: “Forget all these other cars Aston Martin are clearly the best. It has been wonderful to see how they are built now”

Making Graham's Dream Come True

Resident, Graham Oliver, at Windmill Manor had always wanted to go back to Chelsea FC at Stamford Bridge, so staff at the home made his wish a reality proving the old adage, it’s never too late.

Graham Oliver has lived at Windmill Manor for nearly two years and is loved by staff and residents alike. Staff at the home were delighted to be a part of making his dream come true, as they knew how much it meant to him, and they all wanted to be part of  Graham’s Celebrating life Experience Day.

Graham was a season ticket holder at Stamford Bridge and would go regularly to watch the Chelsea games with his son Charles. They were still attending matches when Graham first moved into Windmill Manor but unfortunately it became more and more difficult due to Grahams illness.

Windmill Manor were able to organise a: “CHELSEA FC STADIUM TOUR AND MUSEUM” trip for Graham and his son Charles to enjoy together.

In response to this wonderful surprise, Graham Oliver, said: “Come on you Blues” as we entered the stadium. He explained to the young lady on the desk how he’d always been a Chelsea supporter from when he was a small boy, and how his Father had supported Chelsea and he was glad to be back.

Ellie Lyons, General Manager at the home, said: “We believe that every moment is worth cherishing.  We want everyone we care for to know how important they are to us here at Windmill Manor. It is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team in making our residents’ dreams come true.  It was wonderful to see how happy Graham was – and being able to share this day with his son.”

Everyone loves dogs!

A lovely visit from a local dog walking company, “Doodledogs”.

Hattie came to do work experience and she was an absolute delight to have on board.

Hattie’s mum Tamzin runs her own local dog walking/dog sitting company and as a lovely treat for our residents stopped by at Windmill Manor.

Carer's Week

For our special Care Team at Windmill Manor we put on a week of celebrations and fun for all the hard work they do for our residents.

Chocolates and goodies, were awarded to all, a “fun sports day” with prizes and a “treasure hunt” to guess where it was buried and see what it was.

A big Thank You to all our Carers.
