Activities at Windmill Manor Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Little Waitrose Oxted donates strawberries and hot cross buns for residents to enjoy at Easter

We recently received fresh strawberries and hot cross buns from Little Waitrose, Oxted for our residents and staff to enjoy over the Easter holiday.

The care home welcomed this kind gesture and our residents and staff were thrilled, what a lovely surprise and would like to say “Thank you to Little Waitrose for thinking of us”.

Maggie Golub Head Chef of Windmill Manor said “We offered strawberries at breakfast, strawberry smoothies, strawberry Gateaux, and good old strawberries and cream.  The Hot Cross buns were a perfect accompaniment for afternoon tea at Easter time”

Nutrition and Hydration Week

Windmill Manor care home in Hurst Green celebrated Nutrition and Hydration Week (11th – 17th March) with lots of yummy, wholesome food, thirst quenching beverages and some interesting activities along the way.

Nutrition and Hydration Week aims to highlight, promote and celebrate improvements in the provision of nutrition and hydration locally, nationally and globally.

At Barchester, each resident’s specific dietary requirements, likes and dislikes are individually catered for at all our homes. Meals are prepared to each resident’s tastes and all staff understand the importance of good nutrition and hydration for all our residents and patients’ wellbeing.

Staff and residents at Windmill Manor have devised an exciting, challenging and fun week of activities and food tasting, along with some very interesting facts about healthy diets.

Ellie Lyons, General Manager at the home, said “Our chefs are trained to prepare dishes our residents’ specific dietary requirements as well as all their likes and dislikes. In addition to being trained in how to cook delicious and well prepared food, the chefs are trained in nutritional balance and special diets.  They put a lot of time and effort into menu planning and so we all wanted to say thank you to them during Nutrition and Hydration Week.

Penny a resident at Windmill Manor, commented: “The variety of different food and drinks over this last week has been amazing, it was definitely Michelin standard, so well done to our chefs and activities for a great week of Nutrition & Hydration”.

Making dreams come true

Jean has wanted to go back to the town she grew up in and then brought her own children up in, so staff at the home made her wish a reality proving, it’s never too late.

Jean was born in Redhill Surrey in 1932 and continued to live in that area until she  joined her late husband Ron to live at Windmill Manor Care Home in 2021.

Jean hasn’t been back to Redhill since Ron (Jeans late husband) moved in to Windmill Manor Care Home where they lived next door to each other for over a year. Staff at the home were delighted to be a part of making her dream come true, as they knew how much it meant to her, and they all wanted to be there to see the smile on Jeans’s face when we told her what we had arranged.

We took Jean for a lovely lunch at the “Toby Carvery” and after went to the “Belfry” shopping centre where Jean used to go to all the time. We have been dedicated to helping Jean achieve her trip down Memory Lane. It was wonderful to witness this momentous occasion.

In response to this wonderful surprise, Jean  said: “I was on the verge of tears. It is such an amazing feeling to know that such a loving group of people care so much about me that they helped me to live out a dream – and I didn’t even ask.”
