Activities at Woodland View Care Home

Activities at Woodland View

Woodland View is passionately committed to providing residents with a varied choice of entertainment, social, health and well being, craft and relaxation based activities.

Activities will all be meaningful and based on the likes of residents and will continue to evolve depending on our residents. The activities provided will also include involvement from other local community based organisations and are open to all residents, family and friends of residents. Our activities will be facilitated by staff from all departments as well as invited guests. Families are also enthusiastically encouraged to play a part in activities when possible.

There will always be at least one person at every activity who has been DBS checked to ensure the safeguarding of our residents. The dignity of our residents and our respect for them is at the centre of everything we do, each and every day.

We are always reviewing and changing our schedule of activities to be a centre of excellence and actively invite feedback and suggestions for new and meaningful activities and ideas.

Petra Hardman

Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Petra and I'm the Activities Coordinator here at Woodland View. I love seeing the difference that activities can make to each individual, and finding out what interests they have and ensure I incorporate that into our activities here.

I love music and drama coming from a musical background as a singer all over the country, music is important to me and I feel it makes such a difference to everyone, it evokes memories, and creates happiness. I also love to boost residents self esteem by creating pampering sessions and having one to one time to relax and reminisce.

Musical Magic

Live entertainer, Nettie Osman, brought such a great mood to the home. Everyone wanted to sing along; music has the special powers to make everyone feel happy.

Interactive Light Table

Residents have been enjoyed some interactive light table sessions. One of their favourite games on there is catching balloons and bubbles.

Prepping for Remembrance Day

Woodland View Care Home residents were busy this week as we prepared for Rememberence Sunday. For the event we set out to make 100 knitted poppies in memory of the lives that were lost, and have invited all our friends and neighbours from the community to help us. This year Rememberence day will be very special for all.

A Fond Farewell

A Fond Farewell

Emma Draper has been at Woodland View for the past couple of years and has decided to move on to a different role. Emma has been a wonderful member of the team, with a great can-do attitude. She will be missed by many residents and staff alike. We wish Emma all the best in her new career and we will miss her smiles, passion and kindness.

A Special Gift

A Special Gift

Woodland View was given a lovely surprise, following a visit from relatives of former resident, Ben.

Manager, Anu Jose, and all staff, welcomed Ben’s wife, Joan, back into the home. The family wanted to show their appreciation for all the wonderful care and support he received during his stay. Ben was a much-loved part of the home for 18 months, and will be missed greatly.

Staff were presented with a beautiful picture, which was promptly and proudly mounted on a wall next to Ben’s old room for all to see.

The Great & Good of Colchester

The Great & Good of Colchester

A very interesting presentation was given to the residents of Woodland View recently by Liz White – a historical talk about the ‘Great and Good of Colchester’.

Of particular interest was the ‘Avenue of Remembrance’, constructed in 1933, where trees were planted and dedications put on special bronze plaques to honour the town’s leading citizens, war heroes and many others.

Liz is pictured here with Woodland View resident, Richard, who has recently himself had a book published called 'Colchester: The Historic High Street', which was written by Dave Stenning with Richard Shackle and Jane Greatorex.
