Activities at Woodland View Care Home

Activities at Woodland View

Woodland View is passionately committed to providing residents with a varied choice of entertainment, social, health and well being, craft and relaxation based activities.

Activities will all be meaningful and based on the likes of residents and will continue to evolve depending on our residents. The activities provided will also include involvement from other local community based organisations and are open to all residents, family and friends of residents. Our activities will be facilitated by staff from all departments as well as invited guests. Families are also enthusiastically encouraged to play a part in activities when possible.

There will always be at least one person at every activity who has been DBS checked to ensure the safeguarding of our residents. The dignity of our residents and our respect for them is at the centre of everything we do, each and every day.

We are always reviewing and changing our schedule of activities to be a centre of excellence and actively invite feedback and suggestions for new and meaningful activities and ideas.

Petra Hardman

Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Petra and I'm the Activities Coordinator here at Woodland View. I love seeing the difference that activities can make to each individual, and finding out what interests they have and ensure I incorporate that into our activities here.

I love music and drama coming from a musical background as a singer all over the country, music is important to me and I feel it makes such a difference to everyone, it evokes memories, and creates happiness. I also love to boost residents self esteem by creating pampering sessions and having one to one time to relax and reminisce.

Ned Pepper comes to Woodland View

Ned Pepper comes to Woodland View

What a wonderful thing to see. Residents tapping their feet, clapping their hands, singing a long and in some cases up on their feet dancing!

Woodland View played host to singer Ned Pepper, who sang his way through a whole list of popular songs from across the decades. One of the gentlemen in the audience was moved to tears as the songs clearly brought back memories.

Ned Pepper was accompanied by his wife, who sang her way through a number of classic hits.

The residents were rapturous in their applause at the end and Ned will certainly be invited back to entertain the residents of Woodland View again.

Local Jam Factory Greets the Residents of Woodland View

Local Jam Factory Greets the Residents of Woodland View

We were delighted to enjoy a traditional and homemade afternoon tea at our local jam factory Wilkins and Sons in Tiptree. The factory is very well known across the world providing local jams to the community, all of the residents came away with a jar or two purchased from their very own shop, what a delight to see so many smiles on faces when they were allowed to taste the jams. A very enjoyable day was had by all! Where will it be next?

As one of our communities has been named as Tom Bowdidge Boulevard, we all wanted to support in raising some money for their charity, Tom Bowdidge Foundation.

The Tom Bowdidge Foundation is a charitable foundation, founded on 28th February 2014 and launched by his parents, Richard and Nikki on the 20th birthday anniversary of Tom Bowdidge. Tom died of a desmoplastic small round cell tumour and extensive peritoneal disease in October 2013, at the age of 19. The Foundation is headquartered in Colchester and its goal is to raise funds to support research projects and to provide physical and emotional support to teenagers and young people with cancer.

Attending this evening event was a team from Woodland View, we were greeted with champagne on arrival, music playing throughout the evening alongside a casino, an auction and a raffle, also to be wined and dined in such splendor and dressed up with our finest attire, black tie for the men and for us women it was a great opportunity to get dressed up in our best frocks.

What an evening we all had at this event, shared by over 250 guests that attended!

Woodland View's New Display

Woodland View's New Display

Visitors to Woodland View in Colchester have been greeted by a new installation at the entrance to the care home.

A reflection of the surrounding area and High Woods County Park is now displayed in the foyer. Featuring imitation toadstools, a rabbit, and fresh primroses. This new feature has already delighted many. Along with the smell of fresh bark and the movement sensor activated wild bird song – it’s a sensory experience for all to enjoy!

Birthday Celebrations

Birthday Celebrations

Happy Birthday Mo! Mo Hobbs, one of the first two residents to move into Woodland View when it opened last November, recently celebrated her Birthday. Celebrations were spread over a few days with friends, family and staff all spending time with her and making a real fuss of her. Although a lady doesn't reveal her age, most were pretty sure that Mo wasn't celebrating her 21st! However, Riet Jones, General Manager, presented Mo with a lovely Birthday cake whilst one of the other residents played 'Happy Birthday' on piano, accompanied in song by all those gathered together. Mo was also presented with a range of gifts and shed a few tears, saying how overcome she was at the trouble everyone had gone to for her, which as we all know - was really no trouble at all.Happy Birthday from all of your friends at Woodland View!
Parkers Trip

Parkers Trip

Woodland View residents visited our local garden centre, Parkers Garden Centre. The trip was enjoyed by some of the garden enthusiasts as it gave them all a chance to see the different range of flowers, with vibrant colours and the fragrance from some of the flowers! Then we followed with a traditional afternoon tea. Our home has now been tastefully decorated with beautiful flower pots for the rest of the residents to enjoy. Very much enjoyed by all, before heading home for tea. We certainly will make another visit when the weather is slighter better, but that didn’t spoil our fun. What trip out will it be for the residents next week?
