Activities at Woodland View Care Home

Activities at Woodland View

Woodland View is passionately committed to providing residents with a varied choice of entertainment, social, health and well being, craft and relaxation based activities.

Activities will all be meaningful and based on the likes of residents and will continue to evolve depending on our residents. The activities provided will also include involvement from other local community based organisations and are open to all residents, family and friends of residents. Our activities will be facilitated by staff from all departments as well as invited guests. Families are also enthusiastically encouraged to play a part in activities when possible.

There will always be at least one person at every activity who has been DBS checked to ensure the safeguarding of our residents. The dignity of our residents and our respect for them is at the centre of everything we do, each and every day.

We are always reviewing and changing our schedule of activities to be a centre of excellence and actively invite feedback and suggestions for new and meaningful activities and ideas.

Petra Hardman

Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Petra and I'm the Activities Coordinator here at Woodland View. I love seeing the difference that activities can make to each individual, and finding out what interests they have and ensure I incorporate that into our activities here.

I love music and drama coming from a musical background as a singer all over the country, music is important to me and I feel it makes such a difference to everyone, it evokes memories, and creates happiness. I also love to boost residents self esteem by creating pampering sessions and having one to one time to relax and reminisce.

Birthday Celebrations

Birthday Celebrations

Happy Birthday Mo! Mo Hobbs, one of the first two residents to move into Woodland View when it opened last November, recently celebrated her Birthday. Celebrations were spread over a few days with friends, family and staff all spending time with her and making a real fuss of her. Although a lady doesn't reveal her age, most were pretty sure that Mo wasn't celebrating her 21st! However, Riet Jones, General Manager, presented Mo with a lovely Birthday cake whilst one of the other residents played 'Happy Birthday' on piano, accompanied in song by all those gathered together. Mo was also presented with a range of gifts and shed a few tears, saying how overcome she was at the trouble everyone had gone to for her, which as we all know - was really no trouble at all.Happy Birthday from all of your friends at Woodland View!
Parkers Trip

Parkers Trip

Woodland View residents visited our local garden centre, Parkers Garden Centre. The trip was enjoyed by some of the garden enthusiasts as it gave them all a chance to see the different range of flowers, with vibrant colours and the fragrance from some of the flowers! Then we followed with a traditional afternoon tea. Our home has now been tastefully decorated with beautiful flower pots for the rest of the residents to enjoy. Very much enjoyed by all, before heading home for tea. We certainly will make another visit when the weather is slighter better, but that didn’t spoil our fun. What trip out will it be for the residents next week?

Celebrating Chinese New Year at Woodland View

Celebrating Chinese New Year at Woodland View

A lovely evening was had with the residents, family, friends and staff. The Chinese buffet was cooked from our very own kitchens! The delicious food was followed by a quiz, those attending enjoyed images of Chinese art along with traditional Chinese music. The winners of our Chinese quiz were presented with a large box of chocolates and a bottle of champagne, congratulations to the winners! We also had a raffle that was a true success and the money raised was to benefit the resident's fund. A great night was had by all us, the residents are very much looking forward to our next event Valentines Dinner, February 14th.

When our Four Legged Friends Came to Visit

When our Four Legged Friends Came to Visit

We had unexpected visitors here at our home today, we were met by three large gorgeous dogs! One of the residents said “it’s the size of a pony” however, they were three rescue dogs, husky’s from far afield, such great temperament and we all had a cuddle with them. Just big softies at heart!
Husky is a general name for a type of dog used to pull sleds in northern regions and now they are in Colchester!
Every week the residents enjoy the variety of dogs that come into our home kindly brought in by our friends and relatives, long may it continue.

Skittles at Woodland View

Skittles at Woodland View

A great afternoon at Woodland View was shared amongst many residents. An afternoon of skittles, a game that was enjoyed by the residents, it was never realised that there were so many competitive residents at Woodland View. The ladies verses the gentleman and guess who won? Ladies of course! Maybe the gents will have a return game next week, watch this space!

The Manning Tree

The Manning Tree

Thursday afternoon brought the residents of Woodland View out to our local town of Manningtree, Tendring, which lies on the River Stour. We all went for a walk alongside the wall of the river, looking at all the boats go sailing by, then devoured an ice cream followed by hot chocolate that was enjoyed by all.

Some of the trips that Woodland View can offer, watch out for the next trip in the forthcoming weeks!
