Activities at Alice Grange Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Penny Allen

Lead Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Penny and I am the Lead Activities Coordinator here at Alice Grange.

I have many years of experience working in care homes in Activities, leisure and lifestyle roles.

I love being part of the Alice Grange team and supporting our residents to live their best lives with fun, interesting, and varied activities available every week. I always feel that the residents' input into our weekly planner is important as it gives all residents equal opportunity to explore new interests as well as keeping up with previous passions and hobbies.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Santa arrives at Alice Grange

Alice Grange opened its doors to the community. Children and adults were able to take a mini steam engine ride to meet Santa in his Grotto.

Penny Allen lead activities coordinator said “Alice Grange holds many events throughout the year and Christmas is such a special time. Families joined together, Friends old and new making for a very festive start to our Christmas celebrations. We really enjoy putting these events together and the joy that it brings to our resident”

10-Year-Old Theo who is co-owner with his Father and Grandfather brought their mini steam engine and the joy that this brought to our residents and their families, making this extra special with Santa being here in his Grotto.

We have a Christmas Tree named “Bear Necessity” Where people can donate a bear, of which all will be going to EACH The TreeHouse Children's Hospice in Ipswich. If anyone would like to donate a bear please drop them into us where they will take pride of place until being taken to the hospice.

Halloween at Alice Grange

Halloween at Alice Grange was a day of fun and laughter with a Staff fancy dress catwalk which we called Strictly Halloween and the residents scored the best costume.

We had plenty of trick or treaters throughout the day the youngest being 2 years of age. It was so nice to see the community swing by and for our residents to see the children dressed up in their costumes.

International Gin & Tonic Day

International Gin & Tonic Day is hosted by The Gin Guide on behalf of Jayne Withers who launched the occasion in 2012 in honour of her Grandmother, Mary Edith Keyburn. Jayne writes: "Mary Edith was a remarkable woman who loved the occasional tipple of Gin and tonic".

Our residents then sampled a gin and tonic and were surprised by the amount of flavours of gin and the different types of tonic you can get now.

Alice Grange celebrate Diwali

Diwali is celebrated by billions of people around the world are celebrating the victory of Light over Darkness known as Diwali

Diwali is one of the most popular festivals of Hinduism, it spiritually signifies the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance, and hope over despair.

Its celebration includes millions of lights shining on housetops, outside doors and windows, around temples and other buildings in the communities and countries where it is observed.

The festival preparations and rituals typically extend over a five-day period, but the main festival night of Diwali coincides with the dark night of the Hindu Calendar - Diwali night falls between mid-October and mid-November on the Gregorian Calendar. Diwali or Deepavali is the Hindu festival of lights celebrated every year in autumn in the northern hemisphere and Spring in the Southern.

On the same night that Hindus celebrate Diwali, Jains celebrate a festival also called Diwali to mark the attainment of moksha by Mahavira,  Sikhs celebrate Bandi Chhor Divas to mark the release of Guru Hargobind from a Mughal Empire prison, and Newar Buddhists, unlike the majority of Buddhists, celebrate Diwali by worshipping Lakshmi.

If you have any friends of Indian origin - make sure to wish them well today. Happy Diwali to our friends near and far regardless of tradition and may there always be Light

May you be happy, well, safe, peaceful and at ease.
