Activities at Arbour Court Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a variety of activities and events for all residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus, visits from entertainers and musicians and small group and individual activities in quiet yet stimulating environments. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect resident individual interests as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Aimee Pickford

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Aimee and I'm the Activities Co-ordinator & Dementia Champion here at Arbour Court. In 2019 I received my Level 3 Health and Social Care and decided I wanted to help and enrich the lives of others.

I started working at Arbour Court in January 2021 as a Care Assistant and progressed to be a Senior Carer. In October 2023 I moved onto the activities team as an Activities Team Leader. I love my role as one of our homes Activities Co-ordinators and love to find new and exciting ways to engage our residents.

I am also a Dementia Champion and work closely with our General Manager, Lisa and other Dementia Champions to implement Barchester's Dementia Framework within the home.

Being part of Arbour Court's family is very rewarding and I feel lucky to work in a great environment.

Life at Arbour Court Care Home

Incredible Eggs

Incredible eggs are an ethical company who provides care settings with hatching chicken eggs. We successfully hatched 5 out of 7 eggs. Our residents loved watching the eggs hatch from their shells and once the chicks got stronger, we enjoyed stroking and feeding them. The chicks lived in our hairdressing station and residents, families and friends were able to visit them on a 1-1 basis whenever they wished. This was a unforgettable experience.

St Patricks Day Celebration

In honour of St Patricks Day we made Lucky 4 leaf clover leprechaun hats and enjoyed listening to Irish singers and themed songs like “it’s a long way to Tipperary”. Some enjoyed a nice cold glass of Guinness. This event brought many key developmental skills for our dementia patients such as reminisce and use of fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.

Residents wish to Spain

Anthony placed a wish on our wishing tree. Anthony’s wish was to go to Spain. Anthony and his wife used to have a villa in Spain and used to go there for families holidays and for breaks away once they retired. Although we were unable to take Anthony to Spain we decided that we could bring Spain to Anthony. We invited Anthony family for a Spanish themed event. We decorated Anthony’s room with Spanish themed decorations, old holiday family photos and a pinata. We also provided Anthony and his family with sangria and light snacks. We all had such a lovely time reminiscing about holiday memories.

Mother’s Day

To celebrate Mother’s Day we hosting a Mother’s Day afternoon tea. We had Burnie our male vocalist preforms hit songs from the 50 and 60’s. We all dance and sang away while enjoying light snacks and drinks such as prosecco and scones. This event brought so much laughter and joy to our residents and enabled them to stay active and keep their mind alive by reminiscing about the songs they were hearing.

Chinese New Year

We celebrated Chinese New Year by having a themed lunch. Our dining rooms were filled with Chinese lanterns, decals and Chinese style wall decorations. Residents had a choice of Sweet and sour pork and Chinese style creamy beef and mushroom served alongside rice, duck and vegetable spring rolls and prawn crackers. Residents said they felt as if there were at a Chinese restaurant.

National Bird Watching Week

We celebrated National Bird Watching Week by making bird boxes, feeders and taking a trip to our gardens to scatter bird seed and take part in our bird quiz. Residents loved the peace and quiet and the fresh air - sitting in garden listening and looking for birds while drinking a lovely cup of tea.
