Activities at Archview Lodge Care Home
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.
Diane Wood
Hi, my name is Diane and I am Head of Activities here at Archview. I have worked in the homes since 2009.
I strongly believe in creating moments for our residents and embracing their individuality with tailor made activities, whilst remaining person centred and respecting resident’s preferences. Every day I like to ensure the residents on memory lane can enjoy themselves and have a good time whilst forming bonds with each other and the staff around them.
Outside of work, I have a 23 years old son and a wee dog called Hugo and my ambition is to make people smile and be happy.

Life at Archview Lodge Care Home
Drama show
We were delighted to host relatives and friends to our Archview Drama Group ‘s performance.
We would like to say a big thank you to our activity organiser Mary Macfarlane for writing, directing and supporting the residents to put on this show. Mary works really hard behind the scenes making these shows such a success and she and our residents have had great fun each week rehearsing on a Friday morning. Our drama club meet every Friday and they have named themselves Archview’s Chuckle Drama Group. The show was very well received and was about the wild west.
Hen Party
We celebrated our first ever hen party here in Archview. Jean really wasn’t up for a hen party but we had to. Jean was very surprised when she came into the dining room. Some of her resident friends, managers, our chef Ahmet and of course her bridesmaid Stephanie who works here in Archview all celebrated with her.
A Day on a Barge
All residents David, Julia, Alex, Beryl and our staff member Yvonne. All aboard had a great day on the barge. It was very relaxing and everyone had an enjoyable time. Thank you to the staff at the Seagull Trust. All the staff are very knowledgeable about the canal. All staff were very friendly and very helpful.
Fun Pictures
Diane and Mary took Margaret and Alex for a walk out in to the garden. Margaret asked if we could take them over the arch out into the main road. So off we went out to the main road and sat and watched the traffic go by while talking and singing. Next thing a passer bye tooted there horn and waved to us all. So that was it every car, van, lorry and bus that passed all tooted there horn. Margaret and Alex said what a great morning we’ve had. Fun and laughter. Then Gillal brought David along. More the merrier.
Residents lend their ears to live performance
Residents and guests at Archview Lodge Care Home care home in Dalkeith enjoyed a afternoon of grins with a live music performance that took place at the home. Local singer performed a selection of classic hits including [name songs performed here.
Residents joined in with the singing, and clapped along as the band performed their finale song I close my eyes. The hospitality team at the home also provided a spread of sweet and savoury treats for guests to enjoy during the show.
Fringe Cares Festival
Residents of 4 Barchester Care Homes in Edinburgh are first to take part in the “Fringe Cares Festival” – a new project aimed at maintaining community links and enriching residents within the Edinburgh area. For many senior adults who live in care homes it is often impossible to attend the world’s largest arts festival, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Therefore, this year, Edinburgh Festival Fringe performers are bringing music from the 76 year old arts festival to four care homes in the city of Edinburgh – Queens Manor Care Home, Archview Lodge Care Home, Drummond Grange Care Home and Strachan House Care Home.
The initial idea was thought, planned and scheduled in 2022, with the final concept and performance being launched at the founding home – Queens Manor. From the amazing feedback received by residents, staff, relatives and visitors it was then decided to open up the event to the other three homes in 2023 & what a success it has been.
