Activities at Ashby House Care Home

Activities at Ashby House

Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to enrich peoples lives here at Ashby House. We stimulate people both physically and mentally by organising fun filled, group and individual activities to promote the well-being of those we support.

There are regular outings in our very own minibus and visits from PAT dog therapists, church services, musicians, dancers, and local school children. We also have our very own 'Good Life' gardening club, where we grow our own produce, which we then use in our cooking club. We also host weekly bingo sessions which are proving very popular and are growing in numbers.

Charlotte Arbon

Activities Coordinator

I joined Ashby House in April 2022, I thoroughly enjoy my role as Activities coordinator and love coming to work and having chats with the residents and families.

I listen to the residents and learn about their interest and support them to be involved with activities.  When I am not at work not at work I love spending time with my family playing board games.

We would love to have new ideas, if you have a skill you would like to share or would like to be involved with activities please email us at ashbyhouse.activities@barchester.com

Art Therapy

Here at Ashby House, we love to keep our residents being creative and one of the ways we do this is through art.

Some of our recent art sessions have been creating our own firework displays for our display board and painting our own poppies for our Remembrance Day display.

,

Armistice Day

We had a visit today from members of the Royal British Legion, they kindly came to play the 'Last Stand' for us outside our home, we had a minutes silence also to remember the fallen soldiers.

This was a moving moment for our residents.

Residents have been helping activities with making our own display, we will also be having a virtual Remembrance Day church service on Sunday.

15 years of service celebration

Today we celebrated Mariyalojana, one of our Kitchen Assistant's reaching 15 years of Service here at Ashby House.

Our General Manager, Francesca Fosu, presented Mariyalojana with a beautiful bouquet of flowers, £250 Love2shop voucher, a Long Service pin badge along with a congratulatory letter from Pete Calveley CEO of Barchester Healthcare.

Mariyalojana is a hard working member of the kitchen team, we were all very proud to celebrate and recognize her dedication and contribution to our home.

Donkey Sanctuary

Staff and residents across our services were treated to a virtual tour of The Donkey Sanctuary Manchester, hosted by Centre Manager, Melanie McComb.

Residents joined Melanie live from Manchester to get an inside look into the daily care for the herd of donkeys that live at the Sanctuary and meet some of the fantastic characters there; namely Henry and his friend Tiny Tim. They learned how the Donkey Sanctuary was first created by Dr Elisabeth Svendsen MBE back in 1969 and the first donkey that started off all of her important work and how her legacy continues today.

Melanie says: “It was wonderful to be able to show the Barchester residents around the Donkey Sanctuary here in Manchester and to share the work we do.  We were so happy to be able to show the residents our wonderful donkeys and talk about how we rescue and care for them.”

Home celebrating 30th anniversary

Excitement is building at Barchester’s Ashby House Care Home on Chadwick Drive in Eaglestone, Milton Keynes as staff and residents get ready to celebrate their 30th anniversary!

Parent company, Barchester Healthcare, who run Ashby House, started out in 1992 with just one care home, Moreton Hill, in Stonehouse, Gloucestershire. Fast forward 30 years and Barchester is now the second largest care home company in the UK with 250 care homes and private hospitals all over the country.

Trip to local garden centre

You can tell that Christmas is coming as shops have all their Christmas decorations and displays up already.   On our trip to Dobbie’s we enjoyed looking at all of their wonderful Christmas decorations, our residents loved it, really getting us in the Christmas spirit.  We will be going back in December to buy some festive flowers.
