Activities at Bedewell Grange Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Donna Brooks

Activities Coordinator

My Name is Donna. I am the activities co-ordinator at Bedewell Grange.

I joined Bedewell Grange in April 2022 and I bring lots of new exciting ideas to the role, having worked in the health and social care sector for the last 15 years. I am passionate about my role within the home and aim to bring a smile to all our residents faces through different types of activities.

I'm bright and bubbly, so aim to share this each day at work. I have experience in supporting our residents who are more able as well as doing sensory Namaste sessions with our residents who are less able.

As I get to know the residents likes and dislikes, if you would like to come and chat with me about your family member please pop in and see me.

Life at Bedewell Grange Care Home

New addition to the Bedewell family

We are so happy to announce our latest addition to the Bedewell Babies, and this time it's a Girl!!

Our wonderful carer Kasey gave birth to the beautiful Mollie on the 12th October at 7.27am, weighing in at an impressive 8.1lb. And what a little princess angel she is! Congratulations Kasey and family we absolutely cannot wait to meet her.

Mollie is thriving and Kasey is taking some time to recover after a bit of an eventful birth. Rest up well Kasey and come and see us all soon!

Double celebrations

Double celebrations as Resident, Susan enjoyed two parties to celebrate her special birthday. Susan was joined by all her family and showered with flowers and beautiful cards and gifts.

Susan enjoyed a second party with all her Bedewell friends with entertainment from our regular and popular vocalist, Sam Naylor who performed a medley of hits ensuring that there was lots of dancing and singing as everyone joined in with the party. Happy birthday, Susan!

Some Mother's do Ave Em

Residents across our services had a fantastic time enjoying the virtual screening of Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em. Frank Spencer’s comical misadventures had everyone laughing and it was wonderful to see so many happy faces.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and a special thanks to The Barn Theatre in the Cotswolds for bringing this stage adaptation of the beloved sitcom to our screens.

Northumbria Mounted Police visit the home

PCs Lucy Adair and Bev Crain from Northumbria Mounted Police brought two very special guests, Patronus and Poppy, to visit Barchester’s Bedewell Grange Care home in Hebburn for ‘coffee with a coppa’.

Residents, families and staff had a great morning hearing about some of the fabulous work the Police horses do. Everyone was highly impressed with their wonderful nature, stature and professionalism, the horses were impeccably behaved as residents got to meet them and of course have a stroke.

Poppy had been working hard at the football the previous night, keeping everyone safe at the Newcastle v Wimbledon game, and PC Adair told everyone about her special work at The Queens Jubilee on one of the forces other mounts.

Sewing and Textiles

We have a number of crafters at Bedewell Grange who when they were younger worked in tailors , dress makers and as seamstresses. As part of our Autumn activities we have decided to created a display using all of their skills.

We have been making pumpkins using a range of different fabrics in an array of autumnal colours and using the sewing machine to create the perfect pumpkin shape. Some of our ladies chose to stitch by hand.

National Foodbank Week

Bedewell Grange helped our local crisis response team ‘Hebburn Helps’ to collect in donations of food to donate to the food bank which our residents sorted into bags and they were grateful for the donations.

Hebburn Helps does a lot around our local community and Bedewell Grange were added to their Christmas gift appeal last year and our residents all received gifts from the generous community. We will continue to link in with them and help where we can
