Activities at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Shelbie Taylor

Head of Activities

Hi my name is Shelbie, I am proud to be the Head of Activities here at Boroughbridge Manor.

I have worked at Boroughbridge Manor since 2017, I love making our residents smile. I get great satisfaction knowing I have made someone’s day better!

I have created a wonderful culture within Boroughbridge Manor and we work together to give our residents the best possible experiences.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. We are extremely fortunate to have our very own minibus, we love taking the residents out for coffee, shopping and lots of fun trips out whether that be to the museum or the seaside.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Mini bus trip to the garden centre

Recently we hopped on the minibus and headed to Tate’s garden centre in Ripon for a look around at their shop and plants for sale. Whilst there, we got to view the life sized knitted tank they currently have on display to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-day landings, made by the talented team at Ripon Community Poppy Project ! Residents were amaze at the size of the tanks and spoke to staff about how they made it! We of course then stopped for a coffee and sweet treat in their cafe, with one resident so impressed by the scones we had, she wanted me to ask for their secret ingredient as hers ‘never used to rise so well!’

Dementia Action Week

Here at Boroughbridge Manor we celebrated dementia action week and to begin our week we had the pleasure of welcoming back Rebekah Austin to sing some of our favourite tunes! Dementia Action Week is an awareness raising campaign. Each year, Alzheimer's Society works with individuals and organisations across the UK to encourage people to act on dementia. Listening to or engaging in music – for example, by singing, dancing or playing instruments – can help people with dementia develop and maintain relationships with others and improve their wellbeing. As always we were up singing and dancing on the second song! How lovely it was to see family member join us too!

VE Day Celebrations

On May 8, 1945 celebrations erupted around the world to mark the end of World War II in Europe! Here at Boroughbridge manor we enjoyed coming together to celebrate VE day, with a good ol’ tea party and sing along to Vera Lynn’s greatest hits, including a favourite of many, ‘we’ll meet again.’ The flags were flying, we got out the finest china tea sets and we together looked back at photos from the war, sparking conversations of impressive military careers and reminiscing on time growing up as a child during such uncertain times.

Celebrating culture and diversity

Boroughbridge Manor care home in Boroughbridge invited members of the local community, staff and residents into the home for a celebration of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion where each and every one of us is respected, valued and applauded for our unique qualities.

In a celebration of diversity, staff members cooked a wide variety of different dishes for the residents to sample and gave interesting talks about their home countries which included Romania, Ukraine, India, Nepal & more. Dishes included traditional Varenyky from Ukraine and a sweet treat of Biscuit Salami which is popular in Romania.

Celebrating Cadbury's

Residents across our services had a wonderful time joining Cadbury for an interactive virtual talk on their fascinating 200-year history.

Residents joining learnt interesting facts about the chocolate giant, shared memories, and reminisced about their favourite sweet treats.

It was a heartwarming experience filled with laughter, nostalgia, and plenty of chocolatey goodness!

Guinea Pig Guests

We were super excited to welcome Jen at Sycamore Nook Therapets and her Guinea pigs into our home! We had the opportunity to feed, snuggle and learn all about Ted, Henrietta and friends as Jen bought plenty of cuddly guinea pigs along to meet us all. Our furry friends can work wonderfully for reducing anxiety, improving mood and encouraging communication and engagement in people with dementia.

Of course resident Audrey just had to have a snuggle with baby Audrey too! We had a wonderful morning, thank you Jen for visiting us today!
