Activities at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Shelbie Taylor

Head of Activities

Hi my name is Shelbie, I am proud to be the Head of Activities here at Boroughbridge Manor.

I have worked at Boroughbridge Manor since 2017, I love making our residents smile. I get great satisfaction knowing I have made someone’s day better!

I have created a wonderful culture within Boroughbridge Manor and we work together to give our residents the best possible experiences.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. We are extremely fortunate to have our very own minibus, we love taking the residents out for coffee, shopping and lots of fun trips out whether that be to the museum or the seaside.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

On your marks, Get set, Go!

Here at Boroughbridge manor we have brought the Olympic Games into the home, together we created our own Olympic themed decorations and also by providing a day of gentle exercise, some stiff competition and all round good fun with our own in house games! Residents were invited to take part in a number of point scoring games which included beanbag toss, bowls and basketball, all of which were easily adaptable, enabling everyone to give it a go! The competition was fierce (as you can tell by the concentration in the faces from most of the action shots!) and any signs of cheating were immediately spotted by the most competitive residents, but overall the teamwork, support and laughter shone through and what a fun time we all had!

Sunshine makes us all happy!

We’ve kicked off the week by spending time in the sunshine, enjoying our wonderful garden and outdoor space! With a selection of refreshing drinks and fruity ice pops always available to enjoy, we’ve been sure to head outside to soak up this lovely weather each day before it gets too hot. Our garden is always accessible and available to anyone in the home. The sunshine has had us all reminiscing about our favourite holidays - those who enjoyed going abroad regularly and those who much preferred to head off to the caravan by the coast no matter what the weather. Our resident Lucy said “the sunshine really makes me happy” and I’m sure that we can all agree!

Summer Fete brings community together

Boroughbridge Manor hosted a variety of activities throughout the day, including a tombola, bottle stall, pick’n’mix sweet station, garden games and staff took turns to head into the stocks, allowing the children to soak them with the sponges, all of which were enjoyed by everyone who came to the event. There was entertainment provided all afternoon by the fantastic Rebekah Austin too.

Staff at Boroughbridge Manor care home made everyone feel welcome and were delighted to see different generations having fun together. Visitors enjoyed plenty of refreshments, including cold fizzy drinks, homemade burgers and a variety of delicious cakes prepared by the catering team, who were hard at work making sure that a great time was had by all – it really was a team effort!

Homes join 100th virtual event

Barchester care homes and hospitals nationwide linked together for a fantastic quiz in celebration of Barchester’s 100th live virtual event.

Residents engaged in a variety of questions ranging from historical trivia to visual puzzles and brainteasers.

For those joining everyone had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.

All eyes on the England team!

As the men’s team reached the final of the Euros tournament we set up our own evening of football fun! We played some ball games up on memory lane to warm up before all settling down to watch the match together, with a drink from our in house bar! Residents enjoyed cheering on the team, unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be but there’s always next time! It was wonderful for our football fans to be able to watch the match together and even those who haven’t ever enjoyed football, had a really fun evening!

Did someone say ice cream?!

With the heatwave upon us we jumped on our mini bus and headed to G&T's Ice Cream parlour to enjoy a sweet treat each on such a lovely summers day! With an array of flavours to choose from, residents enjoyed some really delicious ice creams, a favourite being the Risplith Ripple! Some of us even had to have 2, we just couldn’t resist! It’s really important to use here that residents are still able to do those things they always used to enjoy before moving into care, so we always try our very best to make this possible! What a lovely trip out we had together.
