Activities at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Shelbie Taylor

Head of Activities

Hi my name is Shelbie, I have recently been promoted to Head of Activities here at Boroughbridge Manor.

I have worked at Boroughbridge Manor for 7 years, I love making our residents smile. I get great satisfaction knowing I have made someone’s day better!

Myself, Leoni and Suzanne have created a wonderful culture within Boroughbridge Manor and we work together to give our residents the best possible experiences.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. We are extremely fortunate to have our very own minibus, we love taking the residents out for coffee, shopping and lots of fun trips out whether that be to the museum or the seaside.

Life at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

Big Quiz of the Year

All over the country our care homes and hospitals linked up for Barchester’s Big Quiz of the year!

Residents tested their knowledge with a variety of questions, from historical humdingers and musical musings to pictorial puzzlers and connective conundrums.

Everyone who participated had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.

Out with the old, in with the new!

Residents at Barchester’s Boroughbridge Manor care home, in Boroughbridge, celebrated bringing in the New Year in style when Big Ben struck midnight this New Year’s Eve. Residents and staff celebrated New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day by enjoying delicious cocktails whilst creating lots of wishes and resolutions for 2024. We were also treated to a scrumptious festive turkey feast prepared by head chef, Tony.

Head of Activities, Shelbie said: “Our residents love a tipple and New Year’s Eve has to be the best reason to stay up late and see in the New Year.  We’re all really excited to see what 2024 has to offer us all.”

Christmas Jumper Day

Today we helped to make the world a better place by wearing our fun and festive Christmas jumpers, in aid of Save the Children’s annual fundraising event.
Our residents have been encouraged to wear or decorate their own special Christmas jumpers and raise awareness for children in need all around the world.
Some of our residents, this afternoon, have been very creative and decorated their own ornaments they made earlier in the week for one of our Christmas trees. It looks amazing!

Christmas Services

This afternoon residents gathered in the lounge as we welcomed Methodist Minister, Reverend Ian Pruden for a fantastic Christmas Service.
We sang lots of hymns, our favourite's being - O little town of Bethlehem, Jingle Bells and Away in a Manger.
Thank you for a wonderful afternoon.
See you soon!

Walking in a Winter Wonderland

This afternoon we took a trip out to Ripon Spa Gardens for their Illuminated Winter Wonderland.
Even though we didn’t quite see all the spectacular lights we had a fantastic afternoon walking around and enjoying the fresh air!
It was beautifully set out and our residents had a great time! They even got the chance to have a snowball fight in one of the tents! Safe to say Kathy was definitely the best baller.
We even managed to see Santa before leaving and resident Lucy was smitten.
A fabulous afternoon!

Primary School Visit

This morning we welcomed back Roecliffe CE Primary School to perform a variety of Christmas songs. Together we sang some traditional carols such as 'Away in a Manger' and the children performed 'We Wish You a Merry Christmas' using Makaton (signs and symbols to aid communication).
The children then spent time chatting to us about their Christmas traditions and hand delivered cards they had made at school.
Before leaving we all got together for a good old Christmas jingle and residents handed the children some cards we had made earlier in the week.
From all of us, at Boroughbridge Manor, we wish you a Merry Christmas!
