Activities at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Shelbie Taylor

Head of Activities

Hi my name is Shelbie, I am proud to be the Head of Activities here at Boroughbridge Manor.

I have worked at Boroughbridge Manor since 2017, I love making our residents smile. I get great satisfaction knowing I have made someone’s day better!

I have created a wonderful culture within Boroughbridge Manor and we work together to give our residents the best possible experiences.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. We are extremely fortunate to have our very own minibus, we love taking the residents out for coffee, shopping and lots of fun trips out whether that be to the museum or the seaside.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

And they are off!

Residents have enjoyed 2 days of racing fun at Boroughbridge Manor! On Friday we held our own ladies day, where residents donned their fanciest headwear as we took part in a game of fun but factual, horse racing bingo! The fizz was flowing and we tucked into a delicious treat of chocolate strawberries too! Saturday we came together in the main lounge, where the bar was open, to watch the famous Randox Grand National. For many, this brought back memories of bringing the family together for a little bit of fun each year, watching the horses race! Residents and staff took part in a lucky dip before the race began. Congratulations to our resident Val who pulled out the winner and said “well, they do say the grand national is anyone’s race!”

Bottle feeding fun!

This month we headed out on our minibus to Yolk Farm Kitchen, where we were given the amazing opportunity to bottle feed some baby lambs! The lambs were hungry and ready for a feed and each resident had the opportunity to bottle feed at least one lamb as they jumped around the pen! The lambs won all our hearts over and we were able to give them all a cuddle too! This activity brought back memories for some and created new experiences for others, but was enjoyed equally by everyone!

Celebrating Doris Day!

We welcomed Rochelle Ayris Entertainment into our home to help us celebrate what would have been Doris Days’ birthday, with a fantastic performance of some of her well-loved hits! Doris was a well-known American actress, singer and animal welfare activist. The home was filled with sounds of her most popular hits as we sang along to all of our favourites! We had a brilliant morning together and as always loved watching Rochelle perform! Musical entertainment always encourages residents and staff to join us on the dancefloor, providing a morning of light exercise and good fun!

Easter Church service

In the run up to Easter we were lucky to be joined by both Rev Karen Gardiner and Rev Ian Pruden who provided us with a wonderful Easter service. Many of our residents gathered in the dining room downstairs as we sang some of our favourite hymns and learnt of the story of Easter. Residents and families really enjoyed this service and its always lovely to welcome our visitors, families and friends to join in all of our services.

Easter celebrations

Students from Roecliffe CE Primary School kindly visited and set up an Easter egg hunt in our garden for the residents to enjoy. With some clues and direction from the children, residents worked with them in small groups to locate as many chocolate eggs as we could, hidden in the grounds! What fun this was! We then spent time inside chatting together about our Easter traditions and exchanged handmade cards and Easter treats! We also had the wonderful team and children from Happy Jays Nursery - Boroughbridge visit. We decided it would be great fun to set up an Easter Egg hunt in the garden, for us all to enjoy with the smaller children as the weather stayed fine. The residents get so much joy from seeing young children having fun together and enjoy their company greatly. One of our residents and her daughter also crocheted some Easter egg cosies in the run up to Easter, to donate to all of our residents, which were very gratefully received by everyone!

Residents enjoy pet therapy visit

Boroughbridge Manor was full of animal mischief when a group of Guinea pigs came to visit the home. Residents at Boroughbridge Manor were pleasantly surprised to see their new furry friends roaming around their home as guinea pigs from Sycamore Nook Therapet’s paid a visit.

Activity coordinator Leoni Senior said: “Our residents have really enjoyed their unusual visitors today. We knew that having the guinea pigs here would be a bit of fun for all our residents, especially as some find it difficult to go on many outings in our minibus.  We are always looking for new activities for the residents and today we have seen the seen the enjoyment and the therapeutic influence animals can have on people.”
