Activities at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.
Shelbie Taylor
Hi my name is Shelbie, I am proud to be the Head of Activities here at Boroughbridge Manor.
I have worked at Boroughbridge Manor since 2013, I love making our residents smile. I get great satisfaction knowing I have made someone’s day better!
Myself, Leoni and Kelly have created a wonderful culture within Boroughbridge Manor and we work together to give our residents the best possible experiences.
We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. We are extremely fortunate to have our very own minibus, we love taking the residents out for coffee, shopping and lots of fun trips out whether that be to the museum or the seaside.
Read our brochure 'Life-enriching activities' for more information about life in our care homes.

Life at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home
Some Mother's do Ave Em
Residents across our services had a fantastic time enjoying the virtual screening of Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em. Frank Spencer’s comical misadventures had everyone laughing and it was wonderful to see so many happy faces.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and a special thanks to The Barn Theatre in the Cotswolds for bringing this stage adaptation of the beloved sitcom to our screens.
A morning of easy listening!
In September we welcomed George and Natalia into our home, who together sang some of our favourite music for us all to enjoy. The morning was calm, with the duo singing music from the likes of the famous Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley as well as some of the most well-known WW2 tunes that we could all join in with.
Residents sang along to many of their songs but also sat back and listened to the pair perform, the room was relaxed and the music was delightful! A beautiful performance by two fantastic classical singers.
Teddy Bears picnic
“If you go down in the woods today, you’re sure of a big surprise …” Our residents enjoyed welcoming children into the home to join us for a tasty teddy bears picnic! We encouraged residents to bring along their own teddies, many of which were from when they were babies which rekindled fantastic memories of our childhoods.
And the children brought their favourites along too! The residents and children soon became friends and all enjoyed colouring in, waving bubbles and playing together outside. Of course we sang some of our favourite nursery rhymes together whilst tucking into a tasty picnic. Our intergenerational sessions are always a great hit and always thoroughly enjoyed by all! A lovely afternoon, with the best company!
Don’t worry, Beach happy!
With unpredictable British summer weather we headed out on the minibus to Redcar to enjoy a blustery stroll along the beach! The wind was strong but so was the sunshine, and after a long walk along the sea front we found a not so blustery spot to stop and enjoy some delicious fish and chips together whilst watching the waves roll in!
This trip brought back so many memories for our residents, those who used to enjoy walking their dogs along the beach regularly and for others memories of a wonderful place they grew up! A few of us couldn’t leave Redcar without a walk on the sand, but it was just a little too chilly to dip our toes in the sea this time! What a fantastic day! As the saying goes, we really ‘blew the cobwebs away’!
Virtual trip to Cornish Seal Sanctuary
A big thank you to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary for the fantastic live virtual event today!
Residents across our services loved seeing the seals up close and learning about the incredible work the sanctuary does to protect them and other wildlife in Cornwall as well.
Everyone truly enjoyed the experience.
On your marks, Get set, Go!
Here at Boroughbridge manor we have brought the Olympic Games into the home, together we created our own Olympic themed decorations and also by providing a day of gentle exercise, some stiff competition and all round good fun with our own in house games! Residents were invited to take part in a number of point scoring games which included beanbag toss, bowls and basketball, all of which were easily adaptable, enabling everyone to give it a go! The competition was fierce (as you can tell by the concentration in the faces from most of the action shots!) and any signs of cheating were immediately spotted by the most competitive residents, but overall the teamwork, support and laughter shone through and what a fun time we all had!
