Activities at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Shelbie Taylor

Head of Activities

Hi my name is Shelbie, I have recently been promoted to Head of Activities here at Boroughbridge Manor.

I have worked at Boroughbridge Manor for 7 years, I love making our residents smile. I get great satisfaction knowing I have made someone’s day better!

Myself, Leoni and Suzanne have created a wonderful culture within Boroughbridge Manor and we work together to give our residents the best possible experiences.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. We are extremely fortunate to have our very own minibus, we love taking the residents out for coffee, shopping and lots of fun trips out whether that be to the museum or the seaside.

Beat the Clock

Staff and residents joined fellow keen gamers from over 250 Barchester care homes and hospitals across the whole of the UK, including Wales, Scotland, Jersey and the Isle of Wight, to compete in the latest event in the Barchester Goes Gaming series – Beat The Clock!

The inaugural Beat The Clock Quiz, Barchester’s version of Countdown, took place on 26th March 2024 when Boroughbridge Manor got super competitive and took on its sister homes from all over the country to find out which Barchester home or hospital was the best at word puzzles, crunching numbers and solving conundrums.  It was dictionaries at the ready as the homes battled it out to discover who would prevail.

St Patricks day Shindig!

What better way to celebrate St Patrick’s day than with a good old Irish knees up!

To mark the occasion we welcomed Kim and Dave back to the home to perform a variety of our favourite hits! Kim and Dave always know how to get the crowd going and on their first number, of course we were straight up there, dancing away! The bar was open, serving the traditional Guinness a plenty and some ‘shamrockaritas’ for those who preferred something with a bit more fizz! The afternoon saw us take a look at Irish history as we learnt all about Irish traditions and the best tourist hotspots, from one of our Irish residents, who still enjoys a visit over there from time to time. A brilliant day, enjoyed by us all here and by so many of our families too!

Comic relief fundraising!

This year to support the Red Nose Day campaign and their mission to end child poverty, we set ourselves a challenge to ride 100km on the bike! Everyone got involved and what great fun we had doing so, as we took turns to pedal a few km each to reach our goal! Residents of course helped out fundraising too! We spent a morning baking Red Nose Day themed biscuits together as treats to refuel those on the bike, and some residents even hopped on the bike and pedalled a few meters themselves! We would like to thank everyone who has sponsored us, everyone who pedalled and all those who came along to cheer us along the way and we are thrilled to announce we’ve managed to raise a fantastic amount of £181 for Comic Relief !

Nutrition and Hydration week

From 11th to the 17th of March, we took part in nutrition and hydration week. Both good nutrition and hydration are important to maintain good physical and mental, health and well-being.

Residents came together and worked as a creative team to make some delicious fruit smoothies upstairs with Suzanne, including a sweet ‘berry blast’ and a ‘kiwi kick start’ full of greens!

Later in the week Leoni and the kitchen team prepared delicious fruit platters and fruit infused flavoured waters, which were available to everyone throughout the home! What a delicious way to spend our days!

Mother’s Day celebrations

This weekend we have enjoyed celebrating all the inspirational mothers and mother figures in our lives. We have looked back through our photo albums and reminisced of the important women in our life, who helped make us what we are today! On Saturday our loved ones were invited to join us for a glass of fizz and a delicious afternoon tea, which consisted of a variety of our favourite sweet and savoury treats! It was lovely to see so many of our families join us, what a wonderful afternoon we all had!

Boroughbridge Manor does cruft’s!

To mark the start of Crufts week, we have today enjoyed baking our very own homemade dog treats! Residents worked together and made a variety of tasty dog friendly biccies, which are available to all our visiting four legged friends at our reception area! Then the dog judging got underway, judging photographs of our beloved pets that relatives and friends sent in for us to use to judge! Residents voted ‘the most adorable dog’ as Ruby, the spaniel! Residents worked together to make the treats, encouraging conversations about all of our beloved pets over the years and our pet inspired hobbies, such as dog walking in our favourite locations!
