Activities at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Shelbie Taylor

Head of Activities

Hi my name is Shelbie, I have recently been promoted to Head of Activities here at Boroughbridge Manor.

I have worked at Boroughbridge Manor for 7 years, I love making our residents smile. I get great satisfaction knowing I have made someone’s day better!

Myself, Leoni and Suzanne have created a wonderful culture within Boroughbridge Manor and we work together to give our residents the best possible experiences.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. We are extremely fortunate to have our very own minibus, we love taking the residents out for coffee, shopping and lots of fun trips out whether that be to the museum or the seaside.

We're All Mad Here

Today we celebrated Oomph Wellness Dry January with a Mad Hatter's Mocktail and Tea Party!

Whether you're savouring mocktails or exploring the world of non-alcoholic alternatives, Dry January becomes a personal exploration of well-being, resilience, and the triumph of a clear mind.

Residents and staff sat back and enjoyed sweet treats whilst mixologists; Shelbie and Leoni created 3 delicious mocktails 'Dormouse Daiquiri's, White Rabbit Colada's and a Pocket Watch Punch.

Here's to a month filled with clarity, health, and the empowering decision to experience life on the dry side!

Honouring the King of Rock ‘N’ Roll

Our home was transformed into Graceland to mark what would have been Elvis Presley’s 89th birthday today.

It is estimated that Elvis has sold over one billion records worldwide so to honour the undisputed King of Rock & Roll, we all enjoyed a fantastic morning of music, fun and dancing with the fabulous duo - Kim and Dave!

This afternoon, residents found out some interesting facts about Elvis that they haven’t heard before, took part in an Elvis quiz and listened to some of Elvis’s hits.

We all had a wonderful day.

New Year, New Beginnings

Residents gathered in the lounge as we were visited by Rev Ian Pruden for a wonderful New Years service.

Thank you Ian for a lovely afternoon, we are incredibly lucky to have you visit us on a monthly basis and support our residents to continue to practice their religious beliefs.

Medical Detection Dogs

Across our services residents had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event, led by Emilia from Medical Detection Dogs. Emilia took us on a journey to discover how the organisation began training dogs to support people with complex health conditions, saving their lives on a daily basis.

Using their amazing sense of smell, these dogs can identify odour changes emitted prior an episode and alert the person to take preventative action.

We were introduced to the wonderful dogs and the science behind the sniff.  It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our canine-loving residents.

Big Quiz of the Year

All over the country our care homes and hospitals linked up for Barchester’s Big Quiz of the year!

Residents tested their knowledge with a variety of questions, from historical humdingers and musical musings to pictorial puzzlers and connective conundrums.

Everyone who participated had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.

Out with the old, in with the new!

Residents at Barchester’s Boroughbridge Manor care home, in Boroughbridge, celebrated bringing in the New Year in style when Big Ben struck midnight this New Year’s Eve. Residents and staff celebrated New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day by enjoying delicious cocktails whilst creating lots of wishes and resolutions for 2024. We were also treated to a scrumptious festive turkey feast prepared by head chef, Tony.

Head of Activities, Shelbie said: “Our residents love a tipple and New Year’s Eve has to be the best reason to stay up late and see in the New Year.  We’re all really excited to see what 2024 has to offer us all.”
