Activities at Braeburn Lodge Care Home

Our dedicated activities team are constantly dreaming up new and wonderful ways to support and stimulate the residents we look after. From trips to crafts, parties to skittles, musical performances and quizzes, we include something for everyone and pride ourselves on including everyone into the fun. We have a brilliant team of volunteers who help us to deliver more trips, support us at events and pop in for a cup of tea and chat. We have pet therapy at least once per week (sometimes twice!) and we take advantage of every school break by holding large scale events that we can invite families with children to. We have been developing ties with our neighbours since we first opened and thanks to this, we have successfully brought together our residents with local churches, choirs, Brownies groups, and schools. Whatever your interests are, here at Braeburn, there's something for everyone.

Yasmine Dawson

Activities Coordinator

I have worked at Braeburn Lodge since 2015. I started working as a carer and the activities side of the role really appealed to me. We organise a variety of activities to suit everybody’s preferences and abilities. I enjoy working at Braeburn and making a difference to the residents’ lives.

Life at Braeburn Lodge Care Home

Summer at Braeburn

Summer at Braeburn

Summer finally came to Market Deeping, so naturally, we all jumped at the chance to get out and enjoy it while it lasted! The courtyard was busy with residents all day, and we all caught some of the sunshine. We had a large crowd for this gorgeous Monday afternoon - and we all just sat back, relaxed and nattered on all day whilst sunbathing.

Off to the Market

Off to the Market

We just couldn’t miss a chance to get out while the sun was shining, so we jumped on the bus to have a walk around the market and to enjoy some delectable coffees in the café on the square, Cinnamon. We bumped into one of our nurses while we were walking around and one of the residents was recognised by the owner of the cake stall as a regular at his Kings Lynn stall over 2 years ago! We couldn’t end the trip without saying hello to a gorgeous Chihuahua and giving it a bit of fuss and love.

Out for Lunch

Out for Lunch

Well, it’s official: 3 months in and our monthly lunch at the Boundary is a regular occurrence. We have very much enjoyed getting to know the staff here and we always receive excellent service and amazing food! It’s nice to have a change of routine once in a while and we really enjoy tucking into some fish and chips by the riverside with a glass of something tasty. And, of course, who could forget the delicious desserts?

Pennyless Pays a Visit to Braeburn

Pennyless Pays a Visit to Braeburn

To celebrate St George's Day this year, we invited local group, Pennyless, to play us some English folk music. We had everyone clapping and joining in singing – and boy did we dance! We had such wonderful fun and were definitely ready for our tea and cake by the end of the set.

Celebrating the Queen's Birthday at Braeburn Lodge

Celebrating the Queen's Birthday at Braeburn Lodge

To honour the Queen’s 90th birthday, we held an afternoon tea party, complete with cream teas and a toast with some bubbly, given by one of our residents, congratulating the Queen on 90 wonderful years in service to her country. It was a brilliant opportunity to reminisce about our own experiences with the Royal Family and visits to Buckingham Palace. It seems that the party atmosphere had everyone in high spirits!

Green Thumbs in the Sun

Green Thumbs in the Sun

We began work on the vegetable plot today and cleared the bed, relocating plants elsewhere to make room for our new plants. After spreading a top layer of compost, we were ready to start sowing and hopefully we’ll soon have marrows, courgettes, strawberries, tomatoes, carrots, lettuce, radishes and spring onions! Many hands made light work of it and we were ready for a glass of lemonade in the sun when the job was done.
