Activities at Braeburn Lodge Care Home

Our dedicated activities team are constantly dreaming up new and wonderful ways to support and stimulate the residents we look after. From trips to crafts, parties to skittles, musical performances and quizzes, we include something for everyone and pride ourselves on including everyone into the fun. We have a brilliant team of volunteers who help us to deliver more trips, support us at events and pop in for a cup of tea and chat. We have pet therapy at least once per week (sometimes twice!) and we take advantage of every school break by holding large scale events that we can invite families with children to. We have been developing ties with our neighbours since we first opened and thanks to this, we have successfully brought together our residents with local churches, choirs, Brownies groups, and schools. Whatever your interests are, here at Braeburn, there's something for everyone.

Yasmine Dawson

Activities Coordinator

I have worked at Braeburn Lodge since 2015. I started working as a carer and the activities side of the role really appealed to me. We organise a variety of activities to suit everybody’s preferences and abilities. I enjoy working at Braeburn and making a difference to the residents’ lives.

A Change of Plan

A Change of Plan

The weather was not on our side for our planned ferry meadows walk today; one minute we had bright sunshine but blustery winds and the next it was raining! So we hopped on the bus and went to one of our favourite local coffee shops, The Oasis Café, and indulged in one too many custard creams. Then we made the most of the bright sunshine and the shelter of the bus and we took a drive around the local countryside and through some gorgeous villages. We sang along to our favourite pub songs and spotted lovely churches, thatched cottages, lush, green fields and a few horses.

John Dalton Returns

John Dalton Returns

John Dalton was back by popular demand this week and the crowd turned out especially for the occasion. There was gentle opera, classical ballads and upbeat sing alongs. Our favourites for joining in were definitely the Bull and Bush and Lambeth walk and we all joined in with the choruses. Song requests were made and met and we were left in good cheer. The residents can’t wait for the next show!

Trip to Crowland Garden Centre

Trip to Crowland Garden Centre

This week’s trip was out through the countryside and along the river Welland, to Crowland Garden Centre. Aside from the gorgeous scenery on the way there, we were also impressed by the array of fish in the aquarium and we spent a long while admiring the Koi Carp flock up and down their pond. We then treated ourselves to Tea’s, Latte’s and Cappuccino’s and watched the children play before taking a leisurely drive home in time for dinner.

Tai Chi Sessions at Braeburn Lodge

Tai Chi Sessions at Braeburn Lodge

We had a fantastic turnout at this month’s Tai Chi session with Ray. Everyone put in their all and we were all feeling fresh and in high spirits by the end of the gentle exercise. We even did a moment of meditation to end, which put smiles on everyone’s faces, thinking of the most beautiful place we knew or could imagine. We all look forward to next month’s session with Ray!

Boundary Restaurant Treat

Boundary Restaurant Treat

On the 23rd March we shook things up a bit and went to the Boundary restaurant for lunch for some award-winning fish and chips. The proprietor was ever so kind and helpful. We made a decision right then and there to make this a monthly treat!
