Activities at Brookfield Care Home
Our Activities coordinator dedicates her time on getting feedback from our residents of what they like to do. We have introduced paper mornings which involves group discussions and an active mind, and we also have a variety of entertainers that come in on a weekly basis. We hold a residents quiz once a week as it is one of our more popular activities, we now call it the Big Quiz due to its popularity.
It is important that we involve the community and family in many of our activities. We have the local rugby club heritage centre coming in once a week to do Bocci (indoor bowls) and seated exercise. We also hold cheese and wine evenings for family and residents which are very popular. Here at Brookfield we pride ourselves on the fabulous bond our activity coordinator has with all our residents as they are as happy to see her each morning as she is to see her friends.

Life at Brookfield Care Home
Intergenerational visit
Residents of Brookfield enjoy their weekly Tuesday morning visits from the tots from Kids Planet Nursey in Lymm. They played passing the ball with Vivian and Celia and there was lots of laughter too! The little ones sung Nursery rhythms with the residents joining in. A special thank you to Louise and Jade for bringing the children along as it’s a highlight of our residents life enrichment programme.
A trip to the pub!
Our newest resident, Hugh asked if he could go to the local pub for a lunch time pint. He was thrilled with the beer at the Jolly Thresher pub which is located just down the road from the home. Next time he said he would love to have his lunch there after eyeing up the homemade steak pie!
Edinburgh Botanical Garden
Our homes enjoyed a wonderful virtual tour of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh with Community Engagement Manager, Charlotte Walker, and Botanic Cottage Operations Co-ordinator, Laura Gallagher.
The residents were thrilled to learn more about the history of the beautiful Garden, which is now a home to an impressive plant collection from around the world.
Charlotte and Laura also gave a demonstration of making fresh herbal tea and were happy to answer our questions. The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all who joined.
Sharing memories of the Queen
During the national period of mourning, we’ve spent time reminiscing and celebrating the memory and reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Our hearts were heavy following the very sad news of Queen Elizabeth’s passing, but together we took some time to reflect on the reign and extraordinary life of our beloved Queen.
We had a discussion about the amazing achievements and milestones of the Queen, as well as, her hobbies, interests and inspirational reign, watched a wonderful documentary about the Queen and her remarkable life before hosting a very poignant afternoon tea party.
Resident signs book of condolence
The lady Mayoress visited Brookfield to bring the book of condolences for the residents to sign and leave their special messages following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
The Mayoress and Cllr. Creagan said it “was a privilege to meet the residents of the home” whilst they shared memories of the Queen visiting Warrington on the 17th May 1968.
Resident, Vivien said “she had met the Queen on Bridge Street and had spoken a few words to her” Whilst another, Margaret said “her husband and herself had been invited to Buckingham Palace for one of the garden parties” It was a lovely morning sharing memories of the Queens service to her country and commonwealth.
Wallace Collection
Our homes had a fantastic time joining members of the Wallace Collection for an amazing sensory session.
During the live virtual experience, our residents explored one of the museum’s most beautiful Dutch flower paintings and learnt new drawing techniques.
We cannot wait to put our creative skills to a test and produce beautiful paintings of our own.
Everyone enjoyed the lovely talk, we all had lots of fun and it’s given us plenty of ideas.
