Activities at Chacombe Park Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Life at Chacombe Park Care Home
Residents outing to the local museum
Sir Peter recently expressed his love for the history and museums, the activity team worked together and arranged a trip for a group of our residents to enjoy a day trip out to the local natural history museum in oxford. Residents were able to see dinosaur fossils, old artifacts and even got to view the limited edition magnificent Megalosaurus display which was fascinating. Our residents enjoyed hearing the history of this dinosaur, and finished off the day with a visit to the coffee shop where everyone was able to enjoy coffee & cake. Joan said it was the best cake she has had in a while!
End of summer party
Residents, friends, family & staff were able to join together to celebrate the end of the summer with a garden BBQ. Everyone enjoyed the tasty burgers and hot dogs and the last of the summer sun for 2024! We are so blessed with our grounds here at Chacombe Park and in the summer we are especially grateful for the beautiful views from the garden. Barbara said “I love being outside with my friends, enjoying the sunshine whilst it lasts”
Our residents soaked up the atmosphere and sun, with a drink in hand, chatting and reminiscing on summers well spent.
We look forward to holding our annual end of summer party again next summer, but for now we will be looking forward to the next event!
Intergenerational Fun
At Chacombe Park we know that intergenerational activity is hugely beneficial to all involved as it encourages communication and social skills. Intergenerational contact also helps to develop language and reading confidence through shared activities, as well as increasing confidence and self-esteem. Lastly it helps children to develop empathy, care, and kindness, helping them to understand and talk more positively about ageing and older people.
This sort of activity is made possible through our close links with local schools, colleges and nurseries. Intergenerational activities are a cornerstone of our life enrichment program. This week it was Chacombe School visiting and we made the most of the good weather to have fun in the sun.
Carers Week
Last week, we honoured our amazing carers with a party! Joined by all the staff, we celebrated carers week. We had a wonderful cake prepared by our Chef. The Home Manager greeted the carers with a box of chocolates, a small plant and a lovely thank you card.
Our carers had a fabulous afternoon, and we felt it was the least we could do to celebrate their hard work and dedication. Thank you, for everything you do!
AG Magicians Visit
AG magicians entertained Chacombe Park residents with interactive magic which they loved. Local sister home, Glebefields residents also joined and were delighted to be part of it. As you can see, there was fun and laughter all around.
D-Day Commemorative Tree Planting
On D-Day, Chacombe School students, residents family and staff joined Chacombe Park Care Home to plant a tree to remember the lives that were lost on D-Day. To commemorate the 80th anniversary, students sang, shared a beloved story and Janet (one of our residents) played piano beautifully and sang a hymn. The youngest child from the local school and Chacombe’s oldest resident planted an oak tree in remembrance.
