Activities at Cookridge Court Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Laura Marshall

Head Activities Coordinator (on Maternity leave)

My name is Laura and I am the Head Activities Coordinator here at Cookridge Court. I have worked in care since 2014 and get so much satisfaction out of knowing I have made a difference to people’s days and have filled the home with a sense of community and happiness. We have created a wonderful culture within our home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active and ensure we all know each residents' preferences so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. The strong relationships we build with our residents, their families and friends is essential to our homely feel.

Life at Cookridge Court Care Home

Resident receives Fellowship

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Cookridge Court Care Home in Leeds are over the moon because one of their much-loved residents, Dr Martin Berger, has been awarded a Fellowship by Headingly Rotary Club for his services to the club.

Originally from London’s East End, Martin moved to Chapel Town in Leeds as a child during WW2 to escape the bombings.  He studied medicine at the University of Leeds and qualified as a GP, before doing his National Service in the Royal Navy.

Richard and Honey Return

Richard & Honey return back at Cookridge Court for another spectacular performance for everyone to enjoy this week!

There was plenty of reminiscing going on, as the room was filled with beautiful voices, singing along to some very well know 50’s, 60’s & 70’s famous songs, creating so much happiness throughout the home.

Silent Disco

What a fabulous silent disco we have had this week, with the amazing Pete Goldup - The Silent Disco DJ. We always like to get our day started off right so what a better way than a good old boogie.

Staff and residents gathered for a morning of dancing, laughter and some new props to add to the fun, bringing smiles and a whole lot of fun for everyone to enjoy.

The session was priceless seeing the beautiful smiles on our residents faces, having so much fun.

Happy Birthday Joan

Yesterday, Cookridge Court celebrated one of our beautiful resident, Joan’s birthday!!

Joan had a brilliant day spending time with her family & friends, followed by, been serenade by team members, who chorused Happy Birthday and presented Joan with a wonderful birthday cake, baked freshly by our chef Lindsay.

Everyone at Cookridge Court wished Joan many happy returns and hope she enjoyed her special day.

Historic Hendon

Across our services we had a lovely time joining Rhiannon Watkinson from the RAF Museum London for an interactive talk exploring the exciting and innovative aviation history of Hendon.

Our residents were able to learn about the first flights from the fields at Hendon, the creation of the London Aerodrome and Battle of Britain pilots who flew from RAF Hendon.

The talk also included photographic and film material from the Museum’s archive. Residents across our homes had a fantastic time and we truly enjoyed the virtual experience.
