Activities at Cookridge Court Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Laura Marshall
My name is Laura and I am the Head Activities Coordinator here at Cookridge Court. I have worked in care since 2014 and get so much satisfaction out of knowing I have made a difference to people’s days and have filled the home with a sense of community and happiness. We have created a wonderful culture within our home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active and ensure we all know each residents' preferences so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. The strong relationships we build with our residents, their families and friends is essential to our homely feel.

Life at Cookridge Court Care Home
Residents celebrate Hanukkah
Residents at Cookridge Care Home in Leeds took part in a week of rituals and customs to celebrate Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights, which took place from December 18-26. Family and friends gathered, along with other residents who don’t follow the Jewish faith but wanted to attend the beautiful festival.
Hanukkah commemorates a miraculous Jewish victory over 2,000 years ago. Hanukkah traditions are themed around the long-established rituals and customs that took place at that victory, the most important being the lighting of a Menorah or eight candles each evening to signify the eight days that the festival lasts.
Christmas Jumper Day
Yesterday marked Christmas Jumper Day hosted by Save the Children UK
Residents and colleagues embraced the fun of Christmas Jumper Day as they enjoyed a day of fun.
Activities continued in the afternoon with a special performance from Elf, who travelled from the North Pole and gave us an afternoon of fun on the piano, singing a variety of Classic Christmas songs.
Happily Ever After!
This weekend we saw one of our dedicated team members and her Beau join together for their Happily Ever After!
Please join us in wishing Sharna and her new husband a huge Congratulations!
It just goes to show you how much of an extended family we have at Cookridge Court, Sharna and her Bridal Party (doesn’t she look stunning?!) surprised the residents with a special appearance just before the ceremony so they could be part of the celebrations… I think these smiles speak for themselves!
Christmas Party
Our resident’s, resident’s family & friends, along with team members came together to enjoy an evening a festive fun, with live music from the duo group Toe Tappers, a variety of refreshments and wonderful homemade canapés made freshly by our wonderful kitchen department
The evening was full off singing, dancing, laughter and wonderful memories made.
Hark the Herald Angels sing...
Heavenly voices rang out at Cookridge Court Care Home as the community came together to celebrate Christmas with a sing and sign carol concert. Staff and residents at Barchester’s Cookridge Court care home, in Leeds got in the Christmas spirit by inviting the community to come and join in with a carol concert to sing some festive Christmas favourites with the additional feature of the children using Makaton as they sang. The singing was led by Ireland Wood Primary School in Leeds.
General Manager, Karen Francis said: “We are so lucky to have such a fantastic community here at Cookridge Court Care Home. Singing Christmas carols is such a lovely tradition, I’m so glad we could invite our friends and neighbours to come and join in us.”
