Activities at Cookridge Court Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Laura Marshall

Head Activities Coordinator (on Maternity leave)

My name is Laura and I am the Head Activities Coordinator here at Cookridge Court. I have worked in care since 2014 and get so much satisfaction out of knowing I have made a difference to people’s days and have filled the home with a sense of community and happiness. We have created a wonderful culture within our home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active and ensure we all know each residents' preferences so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. The strong relationships we build with our residents, their families and friends is essential to our homely feel.

Life at Cookridge Court Care Home

Elf Day

Staff at Cookridge Court Care Home in Leeds swapped their uniforms for costumes on National Elf Day (Friday December 2) in an effort to raise funds to help people living with dementia.

Launched by the Alzheimer’s Society and delivered direct from the North Pole, Elf Day was created to sprinkle some festive cheer on fundraising towards finding a cure for dementia. From stripy socks to head-to-toe elf outfits, anything goes – there’s snow better way to raise money to help beat dementia.

Salvation Army perform

Brass band played as beautiful voices rang out at Cookridge Court Care home as the community came together to celebrate Christmas with a carol concert with special guests.

Some say you don’t feel like it’s Christmas until you have heard The Salvation Army play. Staff and residents at Barchester’s Cookridge Court Care Home, in Leeds, got in the Christmas spirit by inviting The Salvation Army to come and join in with a carol concert to sing some festive Christmas favourites, while we listened to the brass band playing.

There was mulled wine, hot chocolate and mince pies along with lots of other Christmas treats all prepared by head chef Sinead Ruddock to get everyone feeling festive.

Virtual trip to the Donkey Sanctuary

Across our services, Residents enjoyed a fantastic virtual tour of the Donkey Sanctuary Manchester.  Residents were thrilled to meet the lovely herd of donkeys, including Henry and his best friend Tiny Tim and to learn more about their every day care.  They were introduced to the sanctuary’s work and the impact they make to the lives of donkeys in need worldwide.  The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all.

Home celebrate citizenship

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Cookridge Court Care Home in Leeds are over the moon because one of their much-loved carers, Joyce Dube, has just been made a British Citizen after 19 years!  Everyone at the home is delighted for Joyce.

Joyce has worked at Cookridge Court for many years, she was once one of the home’s housekeepers and more recently took a post as Care Assistant. Joyce is a well-loved member of the Cookridge Court family whose smile could brighten the darkest of days. Everyone at the home is bursting with pride for Joyce and celebrating that her dream to be a British Citzen has finally come true.

Joyce said “When I first received my letter, confirming they had awarded me citizenship, I thought it was a dream, I kept expecting to receive a second letter saying they had got it wrong and the letter was meant for someone else! A few days ago I received my British Passport in the post and am already planning my first holiday, I’m just so happy... It’s a dream come true!”
