Activities at Cookridge Court Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Laura Marshall

Head Activities Coordinator (on Maternity leave)

My name is Laura and I am the Head Activities Coordinator here at Cookridge Court. I have worked in care since 2014 and get so much satisfaction out of knowing I have made a difference to people’s days and have filled the home with a sense of community and happiness. We have created a wonderful culture within our home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active and ensure we all know each residents' preferences so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. The strong relationships we build with our residents, their families and friends is essential to our homely feel.

Life at Cookridge Court Care Home

Residents enjoy virtual trip to Five Sisters Zoo

As part of Barchester’s Life Enrichment Programme, team members and residents at Cookridge Court enjoyed an exciting virtual talk, generously hosted by Five Sisters Zoo.

The residents had the opportunity to explore and learn more about the animal life at the zoo and the important conservation, rescue and education work carried out at the grounds of the zoo.

Five Sisters Zoo was officially established in 2005 with just a small collection of rabbits, guinea pigs, goats, and pigs. Since then the zoo has grown into an exciting collection of over 160 different animal species from all around the world.

Home twists into Springtime

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Cookridge Court care home in Leeds are full of the joys of spring, so much so they are tik tokking their way towards the sunnier weather.

To kick off springtime celebrations, the home’s activities coordinator, Laura Marshall, came up with the idea of producing a springtime dance video.  She comments: “Brighter days are coming, the sun is shining and at Cookridge Court, making staff and residents smile and laugh is one of our top priorities. A smile is infectious and goes a long way.”

Laura wanted a song that residents could reminisce to and would enjoy. “Let’s twist again by Chubby Checker worked perfectly because when you hear it, you can’t help but dance and do the twist!” she says.

Happy Easter

We hope you are having as much fun as we are! This morning, an ‘egg-xtra’ special visitor came to visit the residents & team members to deliver chocolate eggs. You are never to old to have a visit from the Easter Bunny.

We have a fun-filled day packed ahead of us, with a special Easter lunch cooked by the amazing kitchen department and finally testing our general knowledge with an Easter quiz to finish off the day!

Easter Crafts

We are very ‘egg-cited’ to be getting creative, ready to make Easter bonnets for our in-house competition.

Our residents have thoroughly enjoyed themselves, producing some ‘egg-cellent’ creations and are ‘hopping’ into that Easter spirit.

World Cuisine Day

Delicious meals are an important part of the day and we are continuing to visit different countries around the world month. Most recently, we visited Greece.

Home partners with local college

Cookridge Court Care Home in Leeds has teamed up with Leeds City College for a newly launched pen pal scheme, connecting residents within the home to the local community through letters written by the college’s students.

Residents of Cookridge Court, which is run by Barchester Healthcare, have been sent ‘letters of kindness’ by the students of Leeds City College, and are making new friends through the inter-generational scheme.
