Activities at Cookridge Court Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Laura Marshall

Head Activities Coordinator (on Maternity leave)

My name is Laura and I am the Head Activities Coordinator here at Cookridge Court. I have worked in care since 2014 and get so much satisfaction out of knowing I have made a difference to people’s days and have filled the home with a sense of community and happiness. We have created a wonderful culture within our home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active and ensure we all know each residents' preferences so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. The strong relationships we build with our residents, their families and friends is essential to our homely feel.

Life at Cookridge Court Care Home

Cookridge Court receives kind donation

Cookridge Court care home recently received a lovely donation from a lady in the local community to support our residents, especially those living with Dementia.

Laura Marshall, Activities Coordinator met with Lorraine to receive the kind gift of hand knitted ‘Twiddlemuffs’.  People with dementia often have restless hands and like to have something to keep themselves occupied. Twiddlemuffs are a wonderful source of visual, tactile and sensory stimulation and at the same time keeping hands snug and warm!

They are proving very popular at Cookridge Court.

Residents celebrate the return of Wimbledon

Residents at Cookridge Court had a wonderful afternoon watching the first games of the Wimbledon Tournament.

Cookridge Court's tennis fans were delighted to watch the famous matches virtually from the comfort of their armchairs. We all celebrated the opening with strawberries & cream followed by a refreshing glass of Pimms.

Residents have a wartime experience with Blenheim Palace

Ahead of Armed Forces Day, we were transported back in time for a World War II themed talk and tour of Blenheim Palace, hosted by Antonia Keaney, the Palace’s social historian and author.

Entitled ‘Evacuees and Espionage,’ Antonia’s wartime themed talk focused on how the Marlborough family, estate staff and the Palace itself played a full and energetic part in the war effort.

The talk and tour told the story of how the Palace prepared for the worst, survived the onslaught of 400 boys being evacuated to Blenheim and kept the secrets of MI5.

It was a lovely experience, enjoyed by all.

Residents enjoy Portuguese cuisine

Residents at Cookridge Court had a wonderful afternoon enjoying one of our around the world cuisines - Portuguese.

Head Chef Sinead cooked some traditional Portuguese food, which was accompanied by a Portuguese refreshment of wine & beer. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed trying something new and it went down a treat.

Residents and staff celebrate cupcake day

Residents and staff at Cookridge Court Care Home had a great day celebrating Cupcake Day in style as there is nothing like cake to bring people together.

With the help of our talented chefs, we got our aprons and mixing bowls out to bake and decorate a number of cakes and cupcakes in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society.

The day was a real treat for our sweet-toothed staff and residents, as we enjoyed tasting our delicious cakes, whilst raising funds for the charity.

Residents at Cookridge Court celebrate Fathers Day

Residents at Cookridge Court marked Father’s Day in style with a beautiful Sunday lunch, cooked by Chef, Lindsay, in honour of all the Fathers.

Some of our residents had lovely visits from their family & friends, others enjoyed our gentleman’s club where we got together to reminisce about their fathers over a glass of beer.

It was a beautiful day as we reminisced fondly of our fathers & father figures.
