Activities at Cookridge Court Care Home

Staff and residents at Cookridge Court Care Home were treated to an exciting live streaming tour of Knowsley Safari, hosted by Engagement Assistant, Verity Dann.

Our residents were smiling and laughing as they got up close and personal with some of the safari’s most popular animals, including tigers, zebras & meerkats. Residents discovered what a day in the life of a keeper entails from feeding time with the giraffes and meerkats through to training sessions and everything in between.

We had a wonderful time learning more about the animals and enjoying some live feeding demonstrations.

There were happy scenes at Cookridge Court Care Home as staff and residents celebrated Barchester Healthcare being placed 43rd in the top 75 Best Companies in Yorkshire and the Humber to work for.

The Best Companies awards recognise companies’ commitment to their employees and to workplace engagement and are made all the more meaningful because they are awarded based on feedback from a randomly selected cross-section of the company’s own employees.

It is absolutely wonderful to be recognised as an Outstanding company to work for, we are all so proud. We all love what we do and I think that shines through. At Barchester, we are a family and the past year has shown that we can do anything if we all pull together.

The Tea lovers at Cookridge Court had a lovely afternoon tasting a variety of Tea’s from around the world to celebrate International Tea Day.

International Tea Day is celebrated every year to express the economical, biological and physical benefits of Tea.

Karen Francis, Manager at Cookridge Court said: “We hold a wide variety of activities for our residents to keep them engaged and stimulated and of course to have plenty of fun. All our residents and staff love a cup of tea morning, afternoon and evening so what better to celebrate this International Day, than with a variety of different teas. It was wonderful to see our residents enjoying themselves and learning more about one of the nation’s favourite drinks.”

Celebrations have been in full swing at Cookridge Court Care home, as one of its residents reaches her centenary in style.

Eileen Batty was joined by staff and relatives and received a telegram from the Queen in recognition of her landmark birthday. A champagne reception was held at the home and guests enjoyed a special birthday cake made by the home’s chef Sinead.

Eileen was born in Hunslet, Leeds before moving to Middleton, Leeds where she lived her whole married life. She worked in a factory as a sewer until she became married, then became a housewife. She married her husband Wilfred, who was an engineer and they were married for 59 years. At the age of 22 Eileen had her first baby, who was a boy called Victor. Eileen & Wilfred then went on to have an additional 3 other babies who were named Ralf, Christine & Jeanette. Eileen has always been a people’s person and the most important thing was her family.

Cookridge Court in Leeds got active for Senior Health and Fitness Day which took place on May 26th. Residents participated in a variety of activities throughout the day designed for a wide range of physical abilities, including smoothie making and gentle physical activities to ensure all of our residents were able to participate.

Created to inspire senior-friendly physical activity, the national day was launched to increase awareness of the importance of remaining active to maintain strong, healthy joints and muscles, and to encourage diet and lifestyle changes for an overall improvement to wellbeing, and illness prevention.

Residents spent the day trying out taster sessions for a whole host of different activities. There were group classes such as walking and chair yoga. Our Chef, Lindsey also helped our residents with making delicious fresh fruit smoothies and it’s safe to say they went down a treat.

Here at Cookridge Court in Leeds we were delighted to spend time creating a beautiful floral masterpiece to enter the #BloomingBarchester competition in partnership with Blooming Haus following their amazing virtual flower arranging masterclass. 

We all had a wonderful time decorating and working on our arrangement and we are happy to say we were impressed with our skills in applying all the tips and ideas learnt during the class to make a colourful floral design.
