Activities at Crandon Springs Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Katherine Cork

Activities Assistant

Hello, my name is Kath and I’m the Activities Assistant here at Crandon Springs.

As part of the Activities and lifestyle enrichment team, I help in organising our daily activities, ensuring that all of our residents have a variety of activities to choose from each day. I love enriching our residents’ lives by providing meaningful and engaging activities and, having been both a teacher and care assistant in the past, have a wealth of experience behind me. You'll rarely find me without a smile and I'm very family orientated, and I love how both the residents' and colleagues Crandon Springs feel like a second family to me!

Making scones in memory lane

Today upstairs at Crandon Springs on Memory Lane/ Dementia, the air was filled with the most loveliest smells of home baking Our ladies and gentlemen joined together to produce not one but two delicious treats for their afternoon tea We made chocolate chip cookies and scones but the big discussion was jam or cream first In the end it didn't matter as they were all gone washed down with a nice cup of tea.

LOCAL CARE HOME RESIDENTS CELEBRATE 70 YEARS TOGETHER!

LOCAL CARE HOME RESIDENTS CELEBRATE 70 YEARS TOGETHER!

A couple from Crandon Springs care home, in Wells have celebrated 70 years of marriage and received by special delivery a card from Her Majesty The Queen, wishing a warm congratulations on  Bruce and Beryl Otter’s  platinum anniversary.

Bruce and Beryl met at the Trent Boulevard Methodist drama group, Bruce was doing the scenery and Beryl was acting. Bruce says he only went along to help him meet women.

They married at Boulevard Methodist Church, West Bridgford, Nottingham on the 6th September 1952.

On retirement they moved to be near their daughter Jackie in the village of Kenton Manderville.  They now reside on our Memory Lane at Crandon Springs.

Family and friends came to Crandon Springs to celebrate the couple’s special 70th anniversary with staff and residents. The home arranged live music, dancing, cake and cocktails.

Beryl loves music and dancing and once Joe from Time Flies started singing she was up alongside other residents, staff and her daughter dancing.

Home Service Advisor Glenn said: “We have had such a lovely day celebrating Bruce and Beryl’s anniversary. It’s so wonderful to see two people still very much in love after all these years!”

Crandon Springs care home is run by Barchester Healthcare, one of the UK’s largest care providers, which is committed to delivering personalised care across its care homes and hospitals. Crandon Springs provides residential care and dementia care for 64 residents from respite care to long term stays.

Heads Up! Community link...

We are really excited about joining in with some of the incredible things they do over at Heads Up Somerset so our residents can benefit!

Home Services Advisor, Rebekah, was up at the local based charity today to take a look around at some of the amazing facilities and meet some of the truly talented individuals who help to run it. (Including Crandon Springs very own Tracey, Activities Co-ordinator!)

Take a look a some of the available spaces they have, with a veggie garden, pond, bug hotels, quiet corners to relax and get away from everything, arts, crafts and woodworking rooms...

Heads up is vital escapism for individuals struggling with mental health issues or dementia to get away from it all and enjoy a spot of gardening, arts, crafts, pottery, woodwork and more!

We are arranging for some of the Crandon Springs residents to pop up there in future for some of their wonderful classes.

Being a charity, we are looking forward to aiding them with a spot of fundraising in future...

French Boules

Out on the graveled area of the Crandon Springs garden, some of our residents were recently caught on camera enjoying a sneaky game of French Boules...

The community here in the home has really grown into something lovely since we opened and It's particularly nice that they can instigate games such as this themselves!

Friday Card Club

Our fantastic residents do love a game or two of cards here at Crandon Springs and in particular, love to share the fun with others...

Each Friday, without fail, residents come together of their own accord and thoroughly enjoy each other's company, as well as a good game of cards...

It wouldn't be card club, of course, without some sneaky nibbles and drink or two!

Celebrating Volunteers

Following on from a recent post, we now want to pay homage to the lovely Peter...

Peter's has a very personal experience with care home environments, after volunteering at his wife's care home prior to her sad passing in October last year.

Peter then threw himself into a wide variety of volunteering roles, before eventually coming to Crandon Springs after being introduced to us by Tracey, our very own Activities Co-ordinator.

On being asked why he enjoys coming so much, his response was, 'The appreciation from both staff and residents is reward enough and I feel I am making a real difference.' That he is!

Peter helps by driving our mini-bus on trips out, gets involved with activities and is always game for a costume or too, which makes everyone smile...

We must say, he made a fantastic leprechaun too!

THANK YOU PETER!
