Activities at Crandon Springs Care Home
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.
Katherine Cork
Hello, my name is Kath and I’m the Activities Assistant here at Crandon Springs.
As part of the Activities and lifestyle enrichment team, I help in organising our daily activities, ensuring that all of our residents have a variety of activities to choose from each day. I love enriching our residents’ lives by providing meaningful and engaging activities and, having been both a teacher and care assistant in the past, have a wealth of experience behind me. You'll rarely find me without a smile and I'm very family orientated, and I love how both the residents' and colleagues Crandon Springs feel like a second family to me!

Life at Crandon Springs Care Home
Christmas Light Switch On
Lighting up time got a whole new meaning at Crandon Springs Care Home as the community came together to see the home’s Christmas lights switched on for the very first time by local mayor, Mr Philip Welch this Christmas.
Staff and residents at Barchester’s Crandon Springs care home, in Wells, got in the Christmas spirit by inviting the community to come and join in with staff and residents who all gathered in the home’s garden for the occasion. The residents and attendees were welcomed by Father Christmas, who provided personalised “Crandon Springs” baubles, gave out present wish lists and gingerbread men.
There was mulled wine, hot chocolate, roasted chestnuts and toasted marshmallows along with lots of other Christmas treats all prepared by head chef, Gary Lemon, to keep everyone warm. Local business Daniels’ Sandwich Bar also provided coffees, teas and freshly made brownies! The TWO Christmas trees and all the lights looked amazing when the home’s General Manager, flicked the switch for the big reveal. The two Christmas Trees were kindly donated to the home by Brownes Garden Centre and Osbournes Christmas Tree Farm – a huge thank you to the providers for your kind generosity. Whilst the switch on was in full swing an hour of Christmas Carols were performed by local group Village Voices with the collaboration of local PSCOs from Avon and Somerset Police.
General Manager, Natalie Deverall said: “We absolutely love Christmas here at Crandon Springs it is such a special time and we all love decorating the home and having two lovely big trees. It is Christmas so you have to go over the top!”
We’re making our homes as safe as possible and will ensure that all new residents and staff are vaccinated before moving in or working in our homes. Please do give us a call on 01749 685180 if you are looking for care or need any further help.
Christmas Wreath Making
Staff and residents at Barchester’s Crandon Springs care home in Wells were treated to an interactive virtual Christmas-themed floristry masterclass courtesy of Master Florist, Michal Kowalski, from Blooming Haus.
Blooming Haus, is one of the UK’s most innovative floral design and artisan studios. With sustainability and seasonality at the core of their designs, the duo behind Blooming Haus - Michal Kowalski and his business partner, Michael Dariane, bring a completely fresh approach to floristry and their ambition to push the boundaries of traditional floristry has laid the foundations of Blooming Haus’ success to date.
Residents and staff were invited to gather together flowers and foliage chosen by themselves and follow Michal’s demonstration to create their own Christmas wreaths. Residents’ arrangements will be entered into a Facebook competition judged by Michal and Michael to win Love2Shop vouchers.
Christmas Card Stall
This week here at Crandon Springs we have held our first ever Christmas Card Stall with local business Flamingo Paperie.
The pop-up shop allowed our residents to purchase their Christmas cards in good timing before we host our Christmas Card writing activities next week.
We look forward to welcoming Flamingo Paperie back into our home soon. Thank you!
Blanket Donation
Our residents here at Crandon Springs have recently received a warm delivery!
This week we had a lovely visit from The Mothers Union in Wells. The members of the Union had spent a considerable amount of time knitting three large blankets to donate for our residents.
As you can see - our residents were ecstatic!
Thank you so much to the Mothers Union we are extremely grateful.
Booster Vaccinations
All staff and residents at Barchester’s Crandon Springs care home, in Wells, are delighted to have received their third booster Covid-19 vaccinations from Shape Mendip.
General Manager, Natalie Deverall said: “We’ve all been through such a difficult time over the past 18 months but the vaccine has been so important in helping us get our residents’ lives back on track. I am so proud of the team and how they have worked together and continue to do so and we are all so grateful to be prioritised to receive the booster vaccine first. We’re not completely back to normal yet but we know the booster vaccination is vital to help us keep everyone safe.”
Act of Remembrance
Preparation has began here at Crandon Springs for residents, relatives and visitors to pay respects for Remembrance Day. The Life Enrichment team and residents here have decided to make a display of home-made poppies to remember and respect the lives that have been lost.
"Remembrance Day is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth member states since the end of the First World War to honour armed forces members who have died in the line of duty."
So far, we have created many red and purple poppies. The purple poppies represent all the animals lives we have sadly lost too. Please watch this space to see our finished display.
