Activities at Cubbington Mill Care Home

Every day we run different activities throughout our home. The activities are designed and adapted to each individuals personal needs. The activities are designed to mentally and physically stimulate the people we care for and also to enhance their life skills and feelings of purpose and self-worth. The activities encourage interaction on a one to one basis, in small groups, in large groups and some are designed for the whole home including staff to be involved in.

We are registered with the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) which ensures we are able to achieve and continually progress to enhance the quality of life for those we support in the home. We provide entertainers such as singers, musicians, magicians, puppeteers, poets and dancers. We also have regular exercise classes and arts and craft classes. Relatives and visitors will be able to see what me make in these classes on display around the home. We have regular trips out on the mini bus to visit garden centres, enjoy high tea, visit the butterfly farm and spend the day at the zoo with a picnic. We encourage the local community, schools, colleges and relatives to come and join us for activities, tea and cake and to visit to share their skills as much as possible.

Staff from across the home are always willing to help and share their knowledge and skills across a whole range of activities we have had everything from carers preforming Bollywood style dancing to cooking classes from the chef. We feel activities are a vital part of the residents lives to ensure they are stimulated mentally and entertained.

Life at Cubbington Mill Care Home

Cubbington MIll to the rescue!

Every Wednesday, Cubbington Mill care home in Leamington Spa opens its doors to local residents and neighbours to offer them a home-cooked meal in a bid to help tackle loneliness in their local community. The care home offers elderly people who might usually eat alone, the chance to join the residents and teams at the home on Wednesdays from 12:15pm for a hearty three course hot meal free of charge.  The initiative is called Don’t Dine Alone.

Local gent Norman, 94, has been coming along to Cubbington Mill every Wednesday for his midweek roast and a chance for a good old natter and a catch up and loving the opportunity until recently his driving licence was revoked and he could no longer get to the home.  Norman was devastated, as were the staff at the home!  When they heard of Norman’s plight, they couldn’t let his miss out!  Cue Activities Coordinator Rose Tucker and Customer Experience Champion, Laura Renalson, to the rescue!

Warwick Museum Guided Tour

Lily, Don, Chris & Henry along with Activity Coordinator Rose and Head House Keeper Julie had a fantastic time at the museum, where we were treated to a guided tour by Jackie, organised by Lucy. We all enjoyed looking around the museum artefacts learning about local history, before a coffee and piece of cake until it was time to come home again for lunch. At a residents meeting previously held in the home, residents expressed they would like to visit the local area and learn about Warwickshire’s heritage.

Singing For The Brain

There’s one thing enjoyed by all our residents here at Cubbington mill for sure and that’s our love for music and singing! On Thursday afternoons from 4pm, Rose holds a memory choir session, for all the residents to enjoy singing along to old classics, which promote stimulating memories from when they were young, playing Elvis and Sinatra tapes! We tap our feet and sing to our hearts content shaking the tambourine and egg shakers for the whole home to hear.

The 7 domains of wellbeing are implement each day into our residents lives, this is just one example of ‘Meaning’. Residents have a sense of purpose being a part of a choir where each voice matters and is needed, residents make sure each other are on the correct page ready to sing promoting feeling useful.

G-Fitness Mondays

Here at Cubbington we dedicate our Monday afternoons to promote the benefits of good health and wellbeing to all our residents. We got involved with Mick from G-fitness and his seated chair exercises 2 years ago, especially designed to improve and stimulate our residents physical health, as well as, mental wellbeing. During the session we explored a number of specially designed chair exercises, which are able to be enjoyed by all. Residents always take the time to thank Rose Cubbington Mills Activity Coordinator for the array of activities they have during the week!

Baking Club

Baking Club, kicking off 2024 to a tasty start we have homemade jam tarts by Cheryl, Janet, Hazel, Pat, Alison and Maggy! There are various ways we enrich the lives of residents at Cubbington Mill this is just one, reminiscing over baking scales, bowls and rolling pins. For January we decided to have our 'Value Of The Month' being 'Empowerment'. We show this by empowering residents to feel they can try any new skill or reignite an old passion.

There's a Gingerbread House Day - Who Knew?

We love any excuse to get creative so when we found out it was Gingerbread House Day on December 12, we didn’t need any persuading to get cracking.

Our talented residents prepared a big batch of giant gingerbread men, who then got busy decorating with icing, buttercream, marshmallows, dolly mixture, candy canes and edible glitter, to make some of the glitziest gingerbread men in town.

The gingerbread men look really lovely and they are indeed delicious - what a fun way to spend the afternoon.
