Activities at Cumberland Grange Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Gosia Maliga
I have been in the care sector since 2008, and I also have a degree in teaching. I am here to arrange and run a varied range of activities for our residents to take part in, keep them entertained and enrich their lives. From flower arranging, quizzes, arts and crafts to movies in the cinema, I try to make sure there is something for everyone here to take part in, and tailor events to suit each resident.
Read our brochure 'Life-enriching activities' for more information about life in our care homes.

Life at Cumberland Grange Care Home
National Chocolate Day
We’re at it again, celebrating a day which involves yummy treats.
Our residents have a huge bundle of different chocolates (as well as a few extra non-chocolate related favourites...shhh!) to enjoy on this Sunny day.
Take this as your sign to join us in indulging today.
SEW IT, DON’T THROW IT
Last week we had the wonderful Jane from Remade Charity in to hold a sewing workshop.
We have started a Lavender Bag project and will eventually use some of Cumberland Granges very own home grown lavender to add to the little bags that we make.
The best thing about this is, you do not need to have any sewing skills at all (please see exhibit A for proof...Mica’s attempt at sewing)
This workshop is open to our wonderful community. So if you’d like to join us to brush up on your sewing skills, learn how to sew, meet new people, have a chat and a laugh, then come along! We’d love to see you.
Next session date for July TBC so keep an eye out on our page. If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to drop Mica an email on mica.yates@barchester.com
A spot of retail therapy
A few weeks ago one morning when the sun was shining, we hopped onto the mini bus and took a trip into Exeter City Centre to have a browse, a mooch and a nice coffee from Chandos Deli. It was just lovely!

GARDENING CLUB
Last week, before the hot weather made an appearance, some of our lovely ladies got together and planted a variety of different flowers, fruits and vegetables in our four raised planters.
Our chefs will use the veggies and fruit that we grow so that we can really enjoy our homegrown goodness.
Wondering what life is like at Cumberland Grange?
We asked some of our residents what they love about living here. So here are their words.
Cumberland Grange is a real happy home, which is full of love and laughter.
New residents are welcomed with open arms.
FLOWER PROJECT
The sun is shining and the flowers are blooming! So we decided to make a flower wall with thanks to Merle who came in to lead the activity for our residents.
We got the sewing kit out and showed off our skills. Some of us have fantastic modelling skills too as you can see.
A happy, colourful, crafty afternoon!
