Activities at Cumberland Grange Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Gosia Maliga
I have been in the care sector since 2008, and I also have a degree in teaching. I am here to arrange and run a varied range of activities for our residents to take part in, keep them entertained and enrich their lives. From flower arranging, quizzes, arts and crafts to movies in the cinema, I try to make sure there is something for everyone here to take part in, and tailor events to suit each resident.

Themed Eats and Wine tasting session with Tesco
Thank you so much to John Tesco's Community Champion for holding a Themed Eats and Wine tasting session for our residents today.
In celebration of Chinese New Year, John selected some traditional Chinese foods for our residents to try and gave us a fascinating talk about everything he served.
Our residents have had a wonderful afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed leaning something new.
So thanks again John. We look forward to seeing you again soon for another Themed Eats and Wine tasting session. I wonder which cuisine our residents will choose next time…
Magic Table
Here at Cumberland Grange we are so lucky to have one of these amazing interactive Magic Tables for our residents living with dementia.
Created in the Netherlands, the Tovertafel uses interactive games to connect people in the mid-to-late stages of dementia with each other, their family members and friends, all whilst stimulating movement.
Using interactive light projections, the Tovertafel, which can be played independently or as a group, invites participants to pop bubbles, sweep leaves or interact playfully with fish amongst other games, which spark discussion and bring back memories.
As you can see from our photos below, with the main room light switched off, the projected colours are beautifully vibrant.
Our residents love spending time around the magic table.
International Flower Day
Well, I think it’s safe to say that our residents had a wonderful day celebrating International Flower Day here at Cumberland Grange.
We started the day off with some flower arranging and then in the afternoon we collected some beautiful flower creations from Monkerton Community Primary School.
Look how amazing they are! Thank you SO much Monkerton Primary School, our residents are blown away by your kindness and creativity.
We received tissue paper flower bouquets, hand printed flowers in vases and an incredible flower display which we have hung up for everyone to enjoy.
What a lovely day we had.
Burns' Celebrations
Our residents have had a fantastic day here at Cumberland Grange. We’ve had a Creative Therapy Session led by Pete the Poet which saw our residents creating these beautiful paintings, followed by a poem.
For supper some of our residents enjoyed traditional haggis with a side tipple of whiskey.
Burns Night was first held in 1801, over 220 years ago. A Burns supper is a celebration of the life and poetry of the poet Robert Burns, the author of many a Scots poem. It is an iconic celebration which is held every year, especially in Scotland where it is a much loved tradition.
Pamper Day Fridays!
It’s Friday! Which means the lovely Mandy is here pampering our residents in our beautiful hairdressing salon.
Mandy is here every Friday so that our residents can enjoy some well deserved self-love time getting their hair and nails done.
Seated Exercise
Our Life Enrichment team have been busy supporting our residents here at Cumberland Grange. This week we have been focusing on Seated Exercise Classes - which you can see have been a huge hit!
Our residents thoroughly enjoyed the exercise class led by our Activities Team and look forward to this being a regular fixture in our weekly activity planner.
